I have a question for anyone who can please clarify I heard what we are experiencing is a storm this doesn't feel like a storm to me though.

have a question though not sure anyone can answer how come when we have just a little bit of rain the power goes out, but when we have a giant storm the power is ok. I'm totally confused as to why this is

As for the road to lamai all i can say is if you have to go that way be careful guess it was only a matter of time before a land slide like that happened.

Road conditions at least from main road bophut, only vehicles I've seen getting through are those with enough height clearance to get through the water

I've heard some of you don't have access to power for either a long time, hope you manage to get by until power returns

everyone take care of yourself

Apparently the big rock hanging over the road between Chaweng and Lamai has fallen down on the road, anybody with pictures of this?

Just seen it on the news, Yes part of the rock is now laying on the road, But all ok because the Mayor is there. He will fix it. (tongue in cheek) :whistling:

Just been on the phone to Rooo and he is ok, stranded on the hill, a lot of power poles down in his area. His main concern was to drink as much beer before it gets to warm. Wishes everyone cheers and good luck.:burp:

I understand that some of the power cuts are intentional so as to avoid electrocuting people.

One example of this is Bangrak and Choengmon where we have the new street lighting systems. The electric cables are underground. When the roads are flooded this could cause problems for people nearby.

We have had no power now since Monday

Fair enough that cables are under the ground but that's all over Europe the same and there are no powercuts to prevent people from getting electrocuted. It's about how you install the cables in the first place, having had no power for around 36 hrs in the mentioned areas is just a joke!

From bophut area

From big c to the light going towards fisherman village most of the water has gone down I can actually see some of the road again

But going into bophut towards maenum water is not really going down. starting From the yellow bank next to fataweeporn all the way to the family mart across from bandara hotel water is still quite high making the short journey a pain even though its not long your stuck going pretty slow across the water

Still no electric Plai Leam, Choengmon, Bangrak 48+ hours now!

Just checked into a bungalow resort near Mackro/Big C - this area has electric by the way 'Bophut' seems ok from 99 intersection towards Big C then up to Lotus way.

Had to take the Ghost Road route from Plai Leam via Bangrak and the 99 intersection - still floods at the intersection of 'Fishermans village' and even went down the Fisherman beach front road to avoid but the intersection. However the soi leading to Anatara resort on to Maenam ring road was still bad floods - only large trucks seemed to be getting through there.

Stay safe peeps!

7:30am in Baan Taling Ngam. We essentially are on an island between the ocean and the vastly overflowed pond behind us. Amazingly, still have power, water (in the pipes), and internet! Landlord said that while I might be able to get my high clearance 4W drive truck through the water to get to work I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO SEE IF THE ROAD WAS STILL THERE UNDER ME. Very good advice, I expect there are multiple areas with collapsed sections of roads from the force of the water and poorly constructed drainage. And remember that moving water can easily push a car or truck that has been lifted up (floating) off of the road into dangerous situations. This is one of the most common causes of fatalities during floods. Also just heard of a tree down across the road in my neighborhood.

Here is a list of places to be wary of that I saw on my drive yesterday.

Saket to Baan Thale: going up big hill where they have cut away the hillside for fill dirt the road is filled with rocks and road wearing away at side

Entering Lamai from Hua Thanon side same big pond at curve of road where turn off to Grandfather Rock is...Row of shop houses behind (uphill) that curve are all flooded from water down the hill

Back road to Lipa Noi from Taling Ngam before the Raja ferry the windy section has strong water flowing over the road, can't see road. Very dangerous place, stay away.

How was the party at the Barracuda Bar? And where exactly is it?

Good luck all......

.

Well about the time you wrote this post my Thai wife and her family were in a situation exactly as your wise landlord described. The road in this case literally gave way under our SUV and the car ended up half submeged in the strong flowing flood water. The torrent was at shoulder height and as you say one could see that but for the grace of God(or Buddah in their case) the car could quite easily of flipped and gone belly up with tragic consequences.BTW this was just up the road from Taling Ngam on the Laem Sor Pagoda/Cheddi Soi

I have been planning a trip to Samui in mid april for about 6 months now and I don't think I wanna let this flood stop me. I figure the best thing I can do is help their economy by still going there and spending money. Can anyone tell me what the situation might be like in mid april? If Samui is a little ruff around the edges when I get there then so be it. As long as there is still Singha I should be okay.

There is plenty of Singha and things should be back to normal by then. It has stopped raining this morning Enjoy your holiday

Who should have to cover the tourist? I guess if you had travel insurance you could claim on that..

It has almost stopped raining here in Hua Thanon and very little wind. Power came back on at about 5pm yesterday, other parts of Lamai had power come back about 8pm last night.

Does anyone know of the road conditions on getting to the airport? Yesterday the road from Lami to Chaweng was impassable so we couldn't get to the airport for our Firefly flight. Had to forfeit the ticket as we had not cancelled within 48 hours! Go figure. Couldn't get any info on the flight status anyway.

We have booked again for tomorrow and keeping fingers crossed we can get there and back the next day!. Any info would be appreciated, especially on things like fallen rocks on the road, trees, etc.

Thanks! I feel like kind of a schmuck worrying about my vacation when I know people are trying to protect their homes and livelihoods. Mother nature is a cruel beast. I hope people stay safe.

Any update on flooded area's and road conditions around the island?? Most of the post's now are not relevant just ranting about Bkk airline there is already a thread post there.

I agree, we all new updates, not ranting about Bangkok airways.

Like how is the food supply at Big C and Lotus Chaweng?

I understand Lamai Lotus is shut down, is this true?

I can see that Nathon Lotus has been hit with flood waters,

but my big concern is how to best go about getting food for the family,

and where is the best or safest location to purchase food?

Great update, thank you! So from what I can gather the Laem Sor area is not passable yes? Does anyone know how the food supply conditions are? Like is Lotus Lamai open? I heard it was completely flooded. Can anyone verify this? I see the photos of Big C and the the store is empty, which is just terrible news since it will be days for the stores to get restocked. I'm in Namuang and food supplies are scarce over here anyway. The rain and wind has picked up a lot again on this side, so it's not good. Gas stations over here are out of fuel, as many have purchased gas for resale, not good that people should think to profit from this situation at a time like this, I would at least hope everyone would care to take only what they need, but that doesn't appear to be the case.... SAD!
