Explosion at Colombian airport shuts down operations

2010-11-04 06:04:36 GMT+7 (ICT)

BOGOTA, COLOMBIA (BNO NEWS) -- An explosion on Wednesday took place at the Villavicencio Airport in Colombia causing damage and the shut down of operations, local media reported.

The occurred at a warehouse of the airport after a suspicious package exploded. The bomb came from the Miraflores municipality and caused material damage but no injuries.

Colombian authorities closed down the airport as the investigation is ongoing. Preliminary reports indicate that the bomb arrived in a C3 cargo plane but it has not been determined if the blast was accidental or premeditated.

As the airport was closed another airplane had to return to the Colombian capital, Bogota to avoid risks. The blast occurred in front of a store that was crowded at that moment due to Halloween festivities.

Last Sunday, a police man died after an unidentified individual detonated a grenade in the center of Villavicencio. The suicide bomber was killed too as ten more people were injured, including one minor.
