Bank Robbed in Nakhon Ratchasima Amidst Flood Crisis

A suspect stormed into a bank in Nakhon Ratchasima province and made off with more than 60,000 baht in cash amid heavy rainfall and stagnant flooding in the province.

The Yoi Park Poon Provincial Police Station in Nakhon Ratchasima province is inspecting the scene after a suspect robbed Siam City Bank's Tah Pae branch, which is situated in front of Vajirawuth Camp of the Region 4 Army base in Muang district.

The bank's staff said the suspect was wearing a knitted hat, a golden overcoat, and shorts, and was carrying a gun.

The man made off with 68,000 baht in cash from a teller.

The man escaped in a bronze Chevrolet pick up truck with no license plate, which was on standby to pick him up.

Witnesses reported that the car headed towards the downtown Nakhon Ratchasima area.

So far, police officials have found no trace of the suspects. In addition, the bank's surveillance camera did not manage to capture the suspect on tape, as it was under maintenance.

Bank officials have confirmed that the suspect is definitely a local resident, given his Nakhon Ratchasima accent.

Footage from cameras in other buildings near the bank shows the unidentifiable man had wandered around the area for some time before deciding to commit the crime.

Police Accused of Shooting Army Sergeant Surrenders

Police Captain Nopparit Wisetsak, who allegedly shot a female army sergeant in the head, has turned himself in to the authorities after having fled to a temple in Kanchanaburi province.

The Metropolitan Police held a press briefing last night to announce that Police Captain Nopparit Wisetsak, who is accused of shooting and killing Master Seargeant 1st Class Kessara Jaisa ngad at a Bangkok restaurant in a crime of passion on November 2, has surrendered to the authorities.

The investigation team also confiscated the 9 millimeter pistol used in the murder and apprehended Nopparit at his hideout at a Buddhist temple in Kanchanaburi province.

During the press briefing, the investigation team reported that Nopparit has admitted to shooting the female army sergeant, but he claims it was not intentional.

According to Nopparit, he went drinking with Kessara prior to the incident.

When the army sergeant refused to leave with him, he waved his gun to threaten her.

Unfortunately, the gun went off on accident, killing the army sergeant on the spot.

Afterward, Nopparit fled to the Buddhist temple to calm himself before contacting the authorities.

Nopparit said the crime was an accident, but admitted that he was drunk at the time.

The police captain added that he has been in an intimate relationship with Kessara for the past two years, and there was no disputes or arguments which would have led him to kill her.

Initially, Nopparit has been charged with murder and will be further interrogated.

His bail request was also denied, and his case will be processed by the court on November 6.

Nakhon Ratchasima by-election to be fierce race

Puea Pandin Party will decide next week whether to contest the by-election in Nakhon Ratchasima’s Constituency 6 after its aspiring candidate defected to Pheu Thai.

Fugitive ex-prime minister Thakin Shinawatra intervened to engineer the defection of Puea Pandin’s Apicha Lertpatcharakamol to the main opposition party, faction leader Pairoj Suwanchawee said on Friday.

Pairoj also said Pheu Thai had tried to convince his party not to contest the by-election.

Pheu Thai wanted to fight a one-on-one race with the candidate from Bhum Jai Thai Party, he added.

“I don’t think there should be a political collusion in the by-election race,” he said.

He conceded, however, that his party might find it difficult to replace Apicha, aka Meechai Jitpipat, under short notice.

Meanwhile Ruam Chart Pattana has yet to decide whether to contest the by-election.

Nakhon Ratchasima is seen as a stronghold of faction lader Suwat Liptapanlop.

Bhum Jai Thai Party is scheduled next week to finalise its decision to fill House seat vacated by Deputy Interior Minister Boonjong Wongtrairat.

Boonjong was disqualified due to violating the equity ban but still eligible to contest the by-election.

In the face of criticism on Boonjong taking advantage of his ministerial position, the party may endorse the candidacy of his wife Kanchana instead.
