Garmin (Or Any Other Device): Entering Address In Thai Language

Featured Replies

Hi Fellows,

I read almost every post in this board and got the feeling that the Garmin GPS unit seem to be the most suitable ones. But I'm still not quite sur about two points.

1) Is it possible to have both the English AND the Thai map installed on a device and if so on which one this is possible. Would make it easier, when we change the driver we could simply change the map (I don't have to translate).

2) Is it possible to enter a Thai address in the Thai map in Thai Language? I do understand that due to fact that there is no "official" transscription in the English map you should enter a POI as the destination but does this apply to the Thai map as well?

By the way: Do all devices with pre-installed maps have the same POI's or are there sources to load POI's for Garmin maps?

Any experience appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

Sievi

1. As reported, you cannot have both the ESRI English and Thai map set installed at the same time. Something about both maps having the same ID number. You can modify one of the maps using special software so both will work. There was a post about that recently.

2. As for entering addresses in Thai language map, I can only assume they would be as messed up as the English language map. Nobody except the post office knows where anything is in this country, buildings are not numbered sequentially. Perhaps a Thai map user will comment.

3. You can load custom POIs.
