It Shouldn'T Have Worked But.....

Featured Replies

Ever gotten a surprisingly good shot doing what you were told wouldn't work? Maybe you shot it on a cell phone, or out a car window. Photography is all about capturing a moment, and sometimes that moment isn't going to wait for us to go home and get the good camera.

This one doesn't make sense as it's about nothing. I shot it out of a car window in the rain, but I love how it turned out.

Ubon Candle Festival - Evening procession. Did not have a proper external flash for my Panasonic GF1 so had bolted on a Canon flash which I had to adjust manually. Was not working well; images were consistently over or under exposed. To add to the misery, it was raining, so I had an umbrella in one hand and had to work all the camera and flash bits with the other.

So was quite pleased to get this. Under-exposed (I think the flash didn't work), but it looks OK. Just wish they had been dancing towards me.

I love it. It really has that ethereal quality, like a dreamscape almost.

Your photos are always a pleasure to see.

Thanking you :wai:

That is a spectacular shot. It just reinforces my thought that the camera you always carry with you is sometimes the one you'll get your best shots with. I got a couple nice photos the other day of a friend with my I-touch. Unfortunately, the maximum image size is only 960 x 720 and they aren't much good other than e-mailing snapshots. By contrast my little Pentax W30 point and shoot has useable images of 3072 x 2304.

The Panasonic GF1 is the camera I always carry with me; and never fails to surprise me with the quality of its images. My other camera is a Canon 1D, and it stays in the cupboard unless I want to shoot sports; the GF1 is that good.

What a lovely combination of colour and foliage, Stiggy. Thanks for posting the photo.

Although this photo was not taken in Thailand it was a total fluke. I was anchored in a river in BC when I saw this stonefly floating down the river. I had just bought my first digital camera... a 3 mp Nikon 995 and was trying it out. I was snapping pictures of the insect as it came towards me and the last photo was right beside my raft. As I was looking through the lens there was a sudden splash a split second AFTER I pressed the shutter button. A trout had come out from under my anchored raft and grabbed the stonefly. And, because of the shutter delay of most point and shoot cameras, I actually got the picture.
