Its just over 6 weeks away to that holy of all holidays, Christmas. What are you doing this year ?Any plans yet ? Going to that favorite restaurant for a slap up lunch ?

I think im going to eat a jar of pickled onions , 6 hard boiled eggs and washed down with a Pint of Guinness on Christmas eve , then turn up Christmas day where you are. :D

Sunny Delight . Your post was just after 3am. Did you just get up or just get in from a session on the pickled Onions ?

Are you a detective in your spare time ? :D

Hey, I just make observations :D ...... People used to go to a Festive Buffet at the Rimkok.

Its just a normal day out in our village , if it falls on a weekday, the Kids will be in school.

Maybe I'll let them have a day off this year.

Christmas day is a saturday this year, so we are spared the task of jailbreaking our kids I am happy to say.

Has anybody found a place selling Turkeys yet? Cooked or uncooked. I can't say I have seen any myself, and that is the only Christmas Tradition that I am unprepared to let go off. I do love me the Turkey.

I'll be needing your address and the lunch schedule for that day. I'll probably have the pot luck gang in tow as well.

Makro had a selection of Butterball as well as another brand of frozen turkeys last Sunday. If you have the current Makro mailer it shows both and their prices to be in line with a good cut of meat. Have a great holiday and remember to wear those loose pants!

Rico's bar and restaurant are planning a christmas menu at the moment ,best to speak to him to confirm.

Coconut bar in Jetyod will do a christmas meal as they did last year, party atmosphere.

AS for the Rimkok / Dusit its possible , again best to ask them for all the details.

Nice meeting you and your lovely family in Big C the other day. You've got quite a handful there!

Rico's put on a good spread, and I think it is late afternoon, Hope so as I have to teach in language school until 4pm :realangry: , dunno whether the school will lay on any Crimbo fun, if not I will.

Thank you Lannaman, and nice meeting you also. I will drop you a PM when I am back later.

Crimbo, lannaman?

This from the country that is the Mother Of All Languages?

Took the tube to the rellys, watched some telly before Crimbo dinner.

And we excoriate the Aussies for their Strine, and those barbaric colonial Americans for their loopy spellings. Colour me pink; I'm piqued....

Merry Christmas, by the way.

Thai Visa is hosting a party at the Olde Bell Pub on Loi Kroh Road in Chiang Mai on Dec 11, 2010.

All TV members are invited. Fully catered food and drink. Free. Sign up here if you wish to attend.

I know it is far away for some of you...but we regularly have members who drive up from BKK, Surin, Rayong, you name it every year to attend this party. It is a major event and a hoot, and we would love to see you all attend.

Didn't I hear through the rumor mill, that last year's Christmas Dinner at RICO'S was a complete bust, except for the first handful of people who actually managed to get some of the one tiny turkey that was prepared? I wasn't there but there was talk.

I will be in Chiang Rai and will not be celebrating Christmas because I dislike Christmas, it is a miserable, overrated period and I dislike the way it makes people behave. There are more suicides at this time than any other time of the year. I dislike the shallow, fake little advertisements I see everywhere I go that tell me how by going into endless debt to buy crap for my family and friends I’ll somehow be a better person. I dislike the queues in the shops, I dislike how the decorations go up mid-October under the guise of “Holiday Spirit.” And I dislike the people that buy into that sort of thing. I got news for you, the Giant Department Store isn’t throwing up the fake evergreen because they just can’t wait to go carolling with you. They want your MONEY.

While we’re on the subject, I really dislike people who love Christmas and go all out. I dislike how they look at me funny when I say I don’t like Christmas and I don’t celebrate it. I dislike how they reminisce about their childhoods like they were made just perfect by whatever crappy gift ended up under the tree when they were five years old. I dislike how watching a bunch of greedy, snot-nosed brats go into a psychotic rage over the sheer magnitude of ‘STUFF’ that their parents throw at them is supposed to make me feel “joyous” and “warm” and “nostalgic”.

I dislike how everyone asks for my money at Christmas and tries to guilt me into it. I dislike how everyone remembers poor people and homeless people for just the holiday period and then promptly forgets about them again.

I dislike all the hype, “Buy this crap! Eat this crap! You’re a wicked person if you don’t!”

Then after the event is over, it’s, Exercise your fat A@@ because of all the crap you’ve shovelled into it for the past 2 weeks.

Santa Claus is a phony, and you know what. I HATE CHRISTMAS!

Ha Ha Ha Image Dude, thanks for sharing.

I was raised with all the fa-la-la-la-la in farang land. That's why I live here now.

It's really not so bad here- of course Thais will adopt any farang holiday as an excuse to party.

One of the best Christmases I had was in San Felipe, Baja California Norte, Mexico.

Went there once to get away from the crazed consumer hoopla in Southern California.

Was walking along a sidewalk in a quiet residential area on my way back to my hotel.

A family called to me, asked where I was going. They invited me to their festivities, and it was like it was always meant to be- a simple gathering of family and friends, celebrating together and enjoying life.

I think ImageDude's recitation was well delivered. Clear, concise, well supported and to the point. Everything I look for in a post on this forum. Agree or disagree is never the point, or shouldn't be. I am not offended in the least and hope others aren't either. Hopefully it will get people thinking about their own values and what is really important to them during this holiday season. Provocative or thought provoking, is good. :)

The grinch on a roid rage :redcard2:

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but is this one you really needed to share.

Why should I not share, after all I couldn’t possibly be the only one on the planet who hates Christmas. I’m sick of all the superficial cutsie little reindeer, snowmen, Santa Clauses, jingle bells, etc. Oh, excuse me just a moment while I vomit. I mean, driving by some houses looks like the light monster walked by and threw up all over the place. A very few are done well and are attractive but the vast majority are gaudy and look like crap..

I also hate all Christmas songs. I would much rather plug in Metallica or AC/DC then listen to any sugarcoated, department store, elevator-sounding Christmas song.

I vehemently resent all the expectations and demands placed on me at Christmas. I’m not poor but I’m not rich either, and I have bills to pay. There is an endless list of things I am expected to spend my money on – gifts for everyone, tips for all my service providers, extra food, christmas cards, decorations, lights, etc, etc, etc. It is financially irresponsible to buy gifts for everybody at the same time.

Christmas has become the antithesis of itself. It is supposed to be an attitude from the heart of sharing, reflection, and spending time with the ones you love. For those who believe in Christianity it is supposed to be a quiet remembrance of the Biblical Christmas story.

Instead, everybody rushes around going through the motions out of a sense of duty. They want to appear as though they have the Christmas spirit but instead are just mindlessly complying with all the demands and obligations that bombard us from every direction. They use up an unbelievable amount of time and money on Christmas stuff. Why should I send a card to someone I don’t communicate with the rest of the year just because I am related to them? To me it is just overwhelming crass commercialisation and a waste of time, effort and money.

BAH HUMBUG !

Hey Imagedude. I agree but your really describing an 'English' Christmas. Its not at all like that here is it .

Not yet Jubby, not yet . . . . .

I also appreciate your posting, ImageDude. But you needn't feel so angry about the whole overdone consumer madness that Christmas has become in some countries.

Jehovah's Witnesses (a small Protestant sect) have never celebrated the event, or given gifts- it is proscribed.

I usually go eat sushi at a Japanese restaurant on that day.

But for those who want to celebrate this- let them enjoy it.

If a fake plastic reindeer with a million blinking lights give them happiness....

Meself, I just like one thing about Christmas.

A plum pudding, well doused in cognac, and set alight with blue flames.

I'm a pagan at heart....:)

Again. Your describing a typical English fest.

My Kids where in School last xmas day. I spent the day in quiet reflection. :D

I can't recall the last time I sent a xmas card or bought an xmas present here.

Imagedude, it does come across as perhaps you still do ;)

There are some brilliant xmas carols, and some not so brilliant. That song I posted just came into my head and won't go away, I don't know what it is about it, but it makes my spine tingle for want of a better description.

I'm no Christain but I'm hoping to find a church on christmas day, hopefully with Carols and take the children. My Kids won't be getting presents from me either. They got something today instead ;)

It will be nice to have an unfestive beer with you sometime Imagedude. I can Baa Humbug with the best of em :D

And as for not yet, theres a 'Merry Xmas' thing hanging from a neighbours house, been there some years, its just another excuse to party here.

To Ebeneza Image Scrooge-Dude

Yes I agree, it's good to be away from the awful commercial hype in the west, but please, it's good to raise a glass or two and have some fun with friends, hum or sing a few carols and try to be a nicer person for a day or two.

Most schools acknowledge Christmas and have some sort of celebration, and we do our bit to get into the spirit of their festivals - Loy Kratong and Songkran.

So Mr.E.I.S-D get a little bit into the spirit of the thing even if you don't believe in it, when you smile on 25th it will bring some cheer to those around you.

If you don't agree with this, just go off and lose yourself for a few days.

I am not really venting anger dude, just expressing my opinion. You know, I didn’t used to hate Christmas. In fact, I used to look forward to it. But it’s just gotten to be less and less enjoyable each year and continues to do so… so I have reached the tedious yet inevitable conclusion that Christmas is not a good thing for me? Most people I know feel the same way but continue to delude themselves, clenching to a misleading hope that it will be all better next year… clearly the product of years of conditioning. So for me I have applied a little logic and sound judgment, by method of good reasoning… Christmas is simply impractical.
