OK. I just left the Thai Embassy website in Los Angeles, California. They state quite clearly that the 60 day Tourist Visa, that can be extended an additional 30 days but DOES NOT have multiple entry. At least it kind of says that, although it may mean that is only true if you get the visa with the fee waived? So, the question is, can one get a multiple entry Tourist Visa? On my next trip, I would like to enter and leave thailand once or twice during my extended holiday. However, if I can't get a multiple entry Tourist Visa, then it does not seem worth the paperwork. It might be easier for me to just plan my in and out trips to use an airport and get the normal visa on arrival good for 30 days each time.

Updated. I just spoke with a representative on the phone from the LA embassy. He clarified that multiple entry is allowed, and that I just need to check 2 or 3 times up in the VISA application form. He said the intent of the words that I quoted below were to mean that the VISA was not good for unlimited entries. I guess I have one question though. Can the VISA be extended? My understanding after my chat with the man was that it was not, but I may not have asked the question properly.

Save yourself a whole big headache and send your visa app to the Honorary Thai Consulate in Houston, TX. They are way, way more friendly and helpful than the LA consulate, google for their contact info.

Send them the following:

- Application form

- Your passport

- 2 photos

- A pre-paid & pre-addressed return envelope for your passport (very important, must not mess this up)

- A recent bank statement showing you've got enough money to support yourself while in Thailand (not sure what the minimum amount is, but I think its fairly low).

- Application fee, should still be free at this time (I did not include a check)

I think that's all, but double check if I missed anything... Request 3 entries on the application form. They should process your application in 1 or 2 days. I got mine back 3 days after I sent it with 3 entry stamp. Each entry is good for 60 days, and each entry can be extended by 30 days once in Thailand. But the validity of the visa (all three entries) is only 6 months from the issue date of the visa, so you need to make your final entry before the expiration date marked on the visa stamp. Best of luck to you.

1. A tourist visa is issued for a specific number of entries (normally single or two or three).

2. Multi entry means unlimited number of entries and is used for non immigrant type visas.

3. Any normal 60 day tourist visa entry can normally be extended 30 days by Immigration.

4. Be aware of expiration date on visa as all entries must be make while visa is valid.

As you said earlier maybe easier to plan your coming and going by air and just get 30 day exempt on arrival. There are many places to get visa in the states: Portland is friendly, Houston as mentioned, Denver but only one tourist unless you show ticket to come and go and there are several other offices as well that have been reported as friendly. Never have been required to show evidence of money for tourist visa but was asked for copy of bank statement for non-o.

Get your visa and have fun.

I second Portland. She even answers the phone!!!

If I am planning trips around the area, I just schedule my ins and outs according to visa expiry. Works pretty well...if you are coming and going via air.

Yes, she answers the phone. Sent off for my non-o visa on Tues. had it back on Thursday. I had talked to the guy in Dallas but tried to contact later and no answer. Not a lot of confidence in that office.
