Embassy Income Verification Letter For Extension

Featured Replies

I'm interested in applying for a retirement extension based upon monthly income for which I shall need an income verification letter from a US Embassy. Does this letter have to be issued by the US Embassy in Bangkok or is any US Embassy OK? I'm presently working in Vietnam and it is easier for me to obtain this letter from the embassy in Hanoi.

Thanks in advance...

Bangkok or Chiang Mai only as it is a specific document for Thailand only and requires the signature of a US Consulate Officer accredited/assigned to Thailand to notarize it.

However, it might be worth a try to get the "Embassy letter" from Hanoi and see if it works at whatever Thai Immigration office you'll be using. Might not, too, and end up costing you an extra trip downtown to Wireless Road.

I've been using a new letter each year from my U.S. based Office of Retirement Accounts. So far, knock on wood, this has been accepted by Immigration, initially down at Suan Plu, now in Pathum Thani.

thanks for the replies...with regard to the above, if it's true that your immigration office accepts the letter issued by a US office then there may be some flexibility with regard to the document's origin...however, when I go to apply I'll only have been in the country for a week and not the last 30 days of the permission to stay as is usually required so with a non-local income letter maybe I'll be compounding my chances of failure...:(

it would just be nice to breeze by the Hanoi embassy where there is never a queue at ACS and pick up the letter then later breeze by my immigration office in Ayudtthaya with everything in hand and obtain the extension on the spot then breeze home again to enjoy my stay with my family then breeze back to work in VN and etc...

maybe someone who has been successful with an actual embassy letter issued elsewhere could advise...and make my dreams come true...

but then I'd be at the mercy of the local immigration official who would have to make the call on the spot an' blah, blah...

Immigration wil only accept a letter form the embassy that has Thailand under its area of responsibility. A letter form the embassy in Honoi will not be accepted.
