Anyone flown Thai Air domestic flights with excess baggage recently? I'm on the Thai Air website and their excess baggage policy is not clear as far as what the charges may be for overweight baggage.

Not sur if this wil help or not!

i've flown back from the UK twice, flying emirates into BKK then onward with Thai.

First time, ,from Manchester, economy class, emirates let me on with 35Kg luggage, no excess.then in BKK the check in man said, 'I can let you have 30 Kg, but you must pay extra.' I paid about 300 Bht If think for the 5 kg.

Second time, coming back again with 35Kg, business class, the Thai check in lady said ' you're overweight, I replied. but Emirates let me on, no charge' This time i was not charged. ( She asked if I had a frequent flyer card I said yes but did not have it with me.)

My best guess is that the stated 20Kg is very flexible and that up to 25 there is no problem ,even 30 is OK if you have some good reason. Above that just hope

Hope this helps.

Flew Thai Air domestic recently, check in was limit 15kg ,carry on 12kg.

Went to book yesterday and as I want to carry excess they quoted 40bt per kg over the 15 kg allowable.

Air Asia quotes 525 bt for luggage up to 30kg ,must be paid with ticket as a package.

Arrived at BKK this morning for Econ class TG flight to Udon with 50kg split over 3 checked bags. The allowance is 20kg. She charged me for 10kg extra at 65 baht/kg. total 650 baht. I am Royal Orchid Gold so that may also have factored in the reasonable charges.

For comparison with Lufthansa the previous night, ex- Kuala Lumpur with the same bags, they upgraded me to Business Class and charged me for 18 kg over at 220 baht/kg. about 3960 baht.

TG ROP Gold gets you an extra 20 Kg so 40 Kg total, so they did that according to their rules; the 65 THB/Kg may be a key point for the OP?

It seems like LH should have given you 20 Kg (Economy) + 20 Kg for Star Gold (provided your TG ROP Gold FF # was in the record) for a total of 40 Kg. Or 30 Kg (Business class given the OpUp) + 20 Kg for *G for a total of 50 Kg. So maybe you overpaid but with the OpUp (perhaps owing to this being a short tag flight and your *G status) maybe no big deal.

If you are TG Gold than you are entitled to 20kg on top of the standard 20kg, so you were only 10kg over.

When I book one way with West-East Travel in London I usually get an extra 10kg on top of my TG Silver allowance making 40kg.

Thanks all for the input. I emailed Thai air with this question and haven't heard back so far. I don't know why they can't simply state their fees clearly on their site as other airlines do.

LH's check-in at KUL is handled by MAS staff so no clue what rule book he was playing too. I was happy enough that he chose to upgrade me and the end-cost for the XS baggage was less than his original 'quote'. LH have OpUp'ed me twice on this sector, the last time was a full flight (Biz class too). This one had empty seats all over so assume this upgrade was to take the pain out of the XS baggage costs on a short, empty flight for a ROP/G pax..

I recommend this flight for anyone doing a Thai visa renewal in KL and don't like to rush and can afford 2 nights in KL. Late afternoon out of BKK, evening at your leisure. Submit application following morning, afternoon and evening at your leisure. Pick up passport following afternoon for evening departure for BKK. Check the sched though as it is NOT a daily flight. I think the cheapest I have paid is £108 pounds r/t, the most expensive was £132 pounds r/t. This online with LH's website.

Don't hold your breath before they email you a referral to their website as posted by lomatopo earlier.

Assuming your are flying Coach and non- ROP Silver/Gold, you are allowed 20kg. However, if you have one bag that weights greater than 20kg but less than 28kg, they most likely will waive any excess. If you have more than 20kg and more than one bag, then they may just charge you the straight excess. If the flight is undersold, they may waive it again or voluntarily up your free allowance to 30kg in order to make your XS bag charge as small as possible.

You will not get an excess baggage quote from them via email.... too many variables involved.

I flew into Bangkok on Etihad business class and hold gold, had 53kgs.

Had booked Thai domestic business class, 2k baht extra, no FF status with Thai, thus 30kgs allowance, no problems at check in.
