Can I Buy Fresh Cherries In Thailand?

Featured Replies

I have never seen them for sale outside bangkok.

Are there any orchards in Thailand?

I dont' know about cherries grown in Thailand but I have seen imported ones in Phuket at Central. So expensive, it is not worth even looking at them.

They sell cherries seasonal just like in north america you can get them in Pattaya and most Big C stores

In Mae Sai they have them in season grown locally but they taste more like plums than cherries.

I have heard that they aren't that good, this from my wife. My mother-in-law always takes bags of them back home when she visits in season.

In big markets... and expensive... It's WAY TOO hot in Thailand for Cherry Trees... They like temperate zones, like Door County Wisconsin... Same thing for most varieties of Apples, Pears, etc.

They do raise cherries in Thailand. They do this near Mae Sai. They taste more like plums than cherries.

When I saw cherries on sale in Lotus, they were 800B per tray. Maybe the tray was 300g.

Next time, I brought some from Tokyo. Same price, on sale, not Japanese but American import.

My gf has never had tasted cherries before.

I saw cherries in Foodland over the past few weeks. I also saw the box they came in as they were being unpacked; from Washington state (U.S.A.).

Some of the best cherries grow up in the north west US.

I have seen them at Villa when the season is at it's height, some in bulk some packed in plastic.

I always try one of the bulk to test :o

If you ever see any of them marked Rainier, those are the best ones. White or red.

This is making sad, cherry season is over here in the states. :D

One of the advantages of being a farang, which I guess you are. A Thai could/would never do that.

She didn't say antone took her cherry. If they haven't Bamnina, can I have it? :o

  • 2 weeks later...

They sell them in Chinatown, Bangkok, in the market, and they are the nicest i have tasted, but expensive at 500 baht per kilo. bought some last week.

They grow cherries in my area. The very best get shipped overseas. But early in the season you can buy direct at the orchards and get some fine ones at 225b/kilo

I have a Cherry tree in my garden here in Bangkok which gives a lot of fruit but they're so bitter they would pucker your every orifice (that's a "P" there OK chaps).

The Bulbuls love them however.

Patrick

Bitter cherries are for canning and pies. ummmm cherry pie.

Cherries are also very good for gout. My dad swears by them, he used to have pretty bad gout attacks and has found that when he feels one coming on he just eats alot of cherries and it goes away. My father-in-law could do with some, he has terrible gout and we have always wanted to get him fresh cherries.

Where in Thailand are you Aughie? and when is the season?

sbk - Sorry the orchards are in California and the season is July-August. Do you have a Costco warehouse foodmart? They sell dried cherries year round. Wish I could be of greater help.
