Hi. I was wondering if anyone knew the nutritional value of Nampla (fish sauce). I do not read Thai, and the labels never have anything about it in English. I am most concerned with the calories and the sodium. I wouild be very grateful if anyone knew. I use it in EVRYTHING, and am having a hard time knowing how to incorporate it into my new diet. Thanks!!!

Thanks Bambina! Is that for all brands? I know there are quite a few brands out there. I personally use Squid brand. Also, do you know if there is another brand out there that has less sodium???

Howdy BambinA,

In general the sodium content is the only thing that changes much.It can range between 1200mg - 1900mg per Tablespoon. The wife has found that Vietnames brands tend to have the lower sodium.Three crabs is one that is in the mid range of sodium with great flavor. But to each their own.

You could always add water to it :o

That's strange, fish sauce has always been trumpted for its high vitamin B content. Looking at the above nutritional content, this doesn't seem to be so.

Did you ever notice that if the letters in nampla are rearranged it spells napalm?

Not if you spell it Num Pla, Naam Bpla, Naam Bplaa or Num bpla.

You can also get "Insane Anglo Warlord" out of 'Ronald Wilson Reagan'.
