12 Month Non Imm B Visa

Featured Replies

Hello,

I wonder if anybody can help. I start a new job in the new year here in Bangkok, my employers are currently drawing up all the relevant documentation I need to apply for a 12 month non-immigrant B visa. I'm currently here on a 60 day tourist visa which is due to expire 2nd Jan 2011. Various people have told me that if I apply for the 12 month non-immigrannt B at a country that borders Thailand, that they will only give me 90 days not the 12 months required. Is this true? Would I need to fly further to maybe Singapore, Indonesia or Hong Kong? Well I'm looking to leave the country on the 2nd January and apply at the easiest place possible. Once the embassy have my paper work in cambodia, laos or wherever I apply, how long would it usually take for them to complete? If anybody as any useful information on applying for the non-immigrant B, I'd be glad to hear your story.

Cheers

Had the same problem last year.  Singapore would only give me a 90 day single entry Non Immigrant B even with letter from employer requesting a one year multiple entry.  Took that as I was going to the states in two months anyway.  Got a one year multiple entry at the consulate in Portland, OR and it took about 30 minutes.  Just needed the notarized letter from my employer.  Was told by the consulate personnel that nothing was written but was pretty standard policy to only give out 90 visas in the 'region'.  Not sure just how far the 'region' extends but it goes to Singapore for sure.  Good luck!

If you have a work permit than you will get a one-year multiple entry visa. With just the business documents and letter they will give you 90 days. You need to have the WP to get the one year. Otherwise you will have to go to a country outside of SEA.

With the work permit in hand, they will only give you 90 days at bordering embassies, even with a letter from the employer requesting a one year visa. The visa must be extended to one year by immigration within Thailand, my personal experience 3 weeks ago in Vientiane.

Best option for a multiple non-B is to go to Australia, with docmentation from your employer.

In the region the norm is to give only single non-B's and to apply for an extension of stay in country. Only Penang and Kuala Lumpur issue mutiple non-B, but under strict conditions.

I dvie you to apply for the work permit now. The lbour office will give you a wp3 form, which will indicate to a hai consulate that you will get a wp ones you have the correct visa.
