In the last month or so 2 people i know have asked me if i knew anything about using Visa Agents to help get there Thai Partners a visa . Both was for the UK. I am not married to a Thai lady so i really dont know much about it. But having looked at a few websites and seeing the fee's they charge :o . What do these ' agents ' actually do ? On the Goverment website it clearly states that Visa Agents can in no way influence a the outcome of a Visa App . So if they cant influence it by helping there custmers get visa's then how and why do they charge these huge fees ?

Or i am missing something and knowing what i know from living in Thailand do some of these agents have more of a influence than its made out ?

Or is it just a case of easy money for the Visa agents if people are willing to pay them for this pointless serivce.

I have got a visa for a GF before to go to the UK, she was not Thai. But it wasnt hard to do it all our selfs and get the visa with no hassle at all. Is it really that different here ?

If people haven't got the time, education, or are just too bone idle why not use a visa agent?

I can paint a wall...but it doesn't mean I want to paint one myself! ;)

It's a free market afterall :whistling:

RAZZ

P.S. How much do Visa Agents charge anyway?

P.P.S I successful applied first time V//V for my gf without the help of an agent ;)

Just waiting on Settlement now :D

RAZZELL is right. People use agents for all sorts of reasons. Nobody is forced to pay the agent's fees, and everyone can do their own applications if they want. It is indeed a free market. It's possible to do your own house conveyancing in the UK ( and a lot cheaper than using a professional firm ), but how many actually do it themselves ? I don't know anyone who has done that.

That said, if agent's were not doing a good job, then I'm sure we would hear about it in this forum. I know that from time to time there is a post about poor service, but potential applicants can stay away from those agents. How many posts about poor advice from agents do you recall ? The only beef seems to be about the fees.

Also bear in mind that visa applications is only one part of most agent's business. Most agents provide many other services, including extensions of stay ( even when you might find it difficult to obtain one !), translations, marriage services, etc. Don't think that applying for visas is the agent's only raison d'etre.

In addition, several agents give their time and advice free on this forum. Many, many people have applied successfully for visas using the free advice from agents ( and others, of course) here. You can continue to knock agents, as you will, but remember that if there were no agents, then someone would invent them !

Visa agents only fill out an application and submit it for the sucker Applicant and charge an absurd amount of money for it. Very foolish to use one. It is also looked down upon by the embassy as if you are trying to hide something.

That is untrue. The Embassy does not look down on agents at all. In fact the Embassy is aware of which agents provide a good service, and which agents do not. I worked in the Embassy, so please don't tell me that I am wrong.

This thread has become one person deliberately targeting certain businesses, probably over a personal beef. As most posts have been deleted for breaching forum rules it is now closed.
