Dellboy218
If anyone is considering heading up to the Golden Triangle please be advised of the following. The road to Mae Sai via Doi Saket and Mae Kha Chan is excellent The 1290 from Mae Sai to the Golden Triangle is under road widening and is pure dirt road with associated thick dust almost from Mae Sai up to the Hall of Opium at the Triangle, 30 odd Kilo. There are various patches of construction around Chiang Saen & Chiang Khong with the 1020 going south of Chiang Khong under road widening for a considerable distance. Whilst the old part of the road is still tarmac there are a large number of badly filled channels cut across the road. There is also watered compacted soil which is very slippy Anyone heading that way on bikes as we were please take care, both the cut channels and the watered compacted soil is dangerous to the unwary. IanForbes
Thanks for the information update. it helps prepare the unwary. Every time I think of a golden triangle it reminds me of my old Swedish girlfriend.
