December 8, 201015 yr Last year we installed a 2000 litre fibre glass water storage tank as the village water was not dependable. I had a look in the tank yesterday and I see it has green algae on the inner walls. Is there any chemical that I can add to remove the algae which would not harm us? The water is only used for showering and washing. We are new to this system of storing water and any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
December 9, 201015 yr Chlorine bleach should do the trick...just add a quarter cup of the stuff to your tank every week.
December 9, 201015 yr Hi Jimmy the Chlorine is good advise, also if you could keep the sunlight away from the water, it would help to keep the algae down.as we learn in science 101 most algae needs sunlight to photosynthesize Chlorophyll. Many of the fiberglass tanks are translucent, allowing some sunlight to penetrate the water. I dont know if this is a viable solution for your tank, but perhaps a coat of paint ?
