Captain Haddock
I'm planning to enter the Sadao border by car for 3 weeks next week. Is the VOA still only valid for 2 weeks, or has it changed recently? If still 2 weeks, would it be better to visit the local Thai embassy and get a tourist visa (still free, right?) that's valid for 30 days? Otherwise I guess I'll have to pay 1,000bt for a 7 day extension, yeah? Cheers!

Any idea about the main question? Depending on nationality of course, "Visa Exempt" entries allow a stay of 15 days if entering by land, and 30 days if entering by air. A Tourist Visa would give a 60 day permission to stay, and that could be extended by another 30 days for 1900 Baht.
Lite Beer
Yep. 15 days. A free Tourist Visa would give 60 days.
Captain Haddock
How much would it cost to extend the 15 day VOA by a week? 1,000bt? 500bt?

lopburi3
All extensions of stay are the same price. 1,900 baht. And a seven day is not a real extension of stay but only an under review period which may require proof of exit tickets (which you might not have if driving). Tourist visa is still free. Captain Haddock
Righto, thanks. Guess I'll either use the embassy if they can do a same day turnaround, or it'll be a border run to top up on whiskey and wine for the season halfway through my visit! May all make merry...
