Thaksin willing to return royal decorations

The Nation - October 13, 2008

Ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra will likely agree to return all of his royal decorations if required to by law, Government Spokesman Natthawut Saikua said yesterday.

If Thaksin fails to appeal the Supreme Court's guilty verdict and two-year jail sentence against him in the Ratchadaphisek land case, the Knight Grand Commander (Second Class, higher grade) of the Most Illustrious Order of Chula Chom Klao would need to be recalled.

A PM's Office decree endorsed by then-PM Thaksin in August 2005 gives eight criteria for the recalling of royal decorations, including if a person is convicted by the highest court and ordered to serve time in prison.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

epilogue: Thaksin DID fail to appeal his guilty verdict, but has never complied with the recall law he himself signed..

REVOCATION OF THAKSIN'S HONOURS

The Nation - October 29, 2009

After hearing about the government stripping him of his police rank and royal decoration, fugitive ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra sent a Twitter note yesterday, saying: "Thanks for your concern about the government's revocation of my royal decorations and police rank. This can be expected of this government... If they could use the law to kill me, they would have done so a long time ago.

"The process of stripping him of his official honours is routine for convicts and is not a policy decision to fault him," Abhisit said, adding that the honours were being revoked in accordance with police regulations and relevant provisions.

What a difference a year makes.... when it was "his" government (PPP) in power, he's Mr. Humble and yes, I will return the royal decorations... because I want to comply with the law that I myself signed into being.

To the next year, when Democrats are in power, and he's Mr. Denial.

Noppadon Pattama, who is the legal adviser to former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, announced that the ex-premier has been asked by the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, or the CSCE, to postpone his trip to the U.S. until January as a reshuffle is likely to take place after the U.S. midterm elections.

NOTE TO ALL: the commission asked k. Thaksin to postpone his trip. Obligingly k. Thaksin did so. Marvelous chap ;)

What a thoroughly unsavoury chap this Thaksin fellow is.

You're finally getting the idea !!

Absolutely! Apart from being unsavoury, he is also a tottering dismal-dreaming contriver, a dissembling giglet and a poisonous doghearted imbossed carbunkle.

Yes, now you too can insult your favorite political leaders without fear of litigation by using a defunct language!

As this information would have already been known to the Commission and given the State Department's apparent reluctance to issue Thaksin a visa, I think this was just a polite premise for the Commission to reconsider their plans for a hearing... and in the process, give a cold shoulder to Thaksin.

They might not have the same sense of humor as there predecessors.:D.:cheesy:

This is the biggest non-story aired in a long time.

I find it insulting that the English writing Press insult us running this nonsense.

Thaksin can't go to the US for the same reasons that he can't go to the UK; he'd be deported straight back to Thailand.

After the handing over of Bout, and the WickiLeaks details we're not suppossed to know [ Russia's attempted bribery of Thai Officials that Abhisit stopped ] the USA will smilingly return this favour.

Thaksin, wanted on criminal charges, is no war lord supplying anyone who has the money. Bout was the number one player in Russian arms. he supplied anyone. It's a great scalp for the USA to have him in custody.

Thaksin?

The world just got smaller.

And there's something pleasing about him being relegated to dealings in lawless, despotic Africa.

Europe is off the radar, as is America. The world and Thaksin have a lot in common.

They are both shrinking.

When we finally got Saddam he was in a hole but had stopped digging. Thaksin doesn't seem to learn much.

US postpones date for Thaksin’s visit

BANGKOK, 12 December 2010 (NNT) - The US Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE) has rescheduled the date for ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s visit, citing reshuffling of its members.

Mr Thaksin’s Legal Advisor Noppadol Pattama announced the postponement of the CSCE for the former premier to address a forum titled “Thailand: Democracy, Governance and Human Rights”, which was earlier scheduled for this month, to January next year.

Mr Noppadol said the US parliament would be welcoming newly-elected members while the new parliamentary session would commence soon, possibly resulting in a reshuffle among the CSCE’s members.

According to his legal advisor, Mr Thakin has responded in letter to CSCE President Benjamin Cardin, saying the reschedule would give him a chance to sort out his visa problems and time to gather more information on human rights violation in Thailand.

Mr Noppadol added that, at the end of the letter, Mr Thaksin said the forum would tell the truth to the world about the Thai government’s actions against demonstrators in April and May this year.

Meanwhile, Spokesperson to the Democrat Party leader Thepthai Senpong believed that the US would not grant the visa for Mr Thaksin, citing that no other country would ever grant a visa to a fugitive. He also claimed that the exiled premier only wanted to be in the spotlight as he and the Pheu Thai Party members already knew the visa result but were afraid to tell the public.

and to think this neurosurgeon was once Thailand's Foreign Minister...

would be welcoming newly-elected members while the new parliamentary session would commence soon, possibly resulting in a reshuffle among the CSCE’s members.

Yes, a whopping 1 out of the 18 members...

Thakin has responded in letter to CSCE President Benjamin Cardin, saying the reschedule would give him a chance to sort out his visa problems

He'll likely need longer than one month to sort that out...

Meanwhile, Spokesperson to the Democrat Party leader Thepthai Senpong believed that the US would not grant the visa for Mr Thaksin, citing that no other country would ever grant a visa to a fugitive.

That's not wholly accurate. Mugabe's Zimbabwe gave him one this month apparently...

Has anyone in the US (besides Thaksin's PR team) said anything about Thaksin's invitation or the postponement of the hearing? Actually, has anyone in the US (besides Thaksin's PR team) said anything about the hearing or Thaksin at all?

Thaksin Postpones U.S. Trip

A legal adviser to former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has announced that the ex-premier has decided to postpone his trip to the U.S. until January as had been requested by the human rights panel.

Noppadon claimed that the postponement will give Thakin more time to sort out his U.S. visa and gather more evidence to present to the commission, particularly regarding the leaked documents from the Department of Special Investigation regarding the deaths during the political violence.

You seem to have the opinion that Abhist would want him in Thailand. What is your reasoning for this opinion.

Yes he is a criminal and broke the law and deserves to go to prison.

That being said the down side far out weights it. The trouble he would cause just by being in the country criminal or not would not be worth it.

Just what Thailand needs a martyr.

Have you looked at the money he is spending to make himself look good.

Can you imagine what that kind of money would do if he was brought here and incarcerated.B)

US panel puts off event with fugitive Thai ex-PM

WASHINGTON, December 13, 2010 (AFP) - A US government human rights panel said Monday it had put off indefinitely a hearing on alleged abuses in Thailand that was to have heard testimony from the kingdom's fugitive former prime minister.

Thaksin Shinawatra, who was ousted by a 2006 military coup and lives abroad to avoid a jail term for corruption, had been set to appear before the US Helsinki Commission to discuss deadly "Red Shirt" anti-government protests.

But "the event is not occurring this month," said a spokesman for the panel, Neil Simon.

An official familiar with the commission's operations blamed scheduling problems for the postponement and said the panel "may schedule an event next year regarding human rights in Thailand."

Thaksin, a former billionaire telecommunications tycoon, has been a vocal critic of the Thai government response to the Bangkok rallies, which saw dozens killed in clashes.

Thaksin drew wide support from Thailand's rural poor when he was in office and is still held in high regard by many Red Shirts, who accuse the current government of being elitist and undemocratic.

The Reds' rally demanding immediate elections overwhelmed the retail heart of Bangkok for two months before a military crackdown brought the demonstration to a bloody end in May.

More than 90 people were left dead and nearly 1,900 injured in unrest during the protests and many of those killed were civilians.

The diplomatic passports from 3rd world countries did not do their job?

But I thought Thailand had revoked his diplomatic passport?

It did. I believe trogers is referring to his Montenegrin passport

<snip>

Er, yessssss. I know he was referring to Montenegro, but I was actually trying to be make a joke - implying that Thailand was still a third world country. Next time I'll add a non-subtle smiley just to make it crystal clear, e.g.

Tends to spoil the joke, though. :D

Good to hear Noppadon "confirm" the Commission's previously released statement.

Thaksin's legal advisor confirms postponement of hearing on alleged rights abuses in Thailand

BANGKOK, Dec 14 - The US Helsinki Commission has postponed its hearing indefinitely on Thailand's human rights violations to which fugitive ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra has been invited to testify, according to his legal advisor Nappadon Pattama.

Mr Noppadon on Tuesday made his remarks after the spokesman for the Commission for the Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE), also known as the US Helsinki Commission, confirmed that the panel decided to indefinitely postpone the hearing, earlier scheduled for Dec 16 in Washington DC, on alleged abuses during the March-May anti-government demonstrations in which as many as 91 people were killed and more than 1,900 wounded during the confrontation between security personnel and the ‘Red Shirt’ protesters.

Spokesman Neil Simon reportedly said the hearing will not be held this month and may reschedule the event next year, but gave no reason for the postponement.

Mr Noppadon said the indefinite delay of the hearing is true, but said he has not yet talked with Mr Thaksin about the latest action of the panel.

"This confirms that the invitation of Mr Thaksin to attend the hearing is real and we have not made up a story as charged by the government and the Thai foreign ministry," Mr Noppadon said.

Thaksin's legal advisor also expressed confidence that the CSCE will inform the deposed premier of its new schedule with a renewed official letter of invitation.

He said the ex-premier has strong determination to tell the truth about the Red Shirt demonstrations between March and May with the evidence on incidents related to the clashes between the security forces and the protesters to the US human rights panel.

Mr Noppadon called on the Thai government to "be mature" and let its opposition have a chance to present its information, saying this will be useful for all parties.

Mr Noppadon, former foreign minister in the Samak Sundaravej administration, on Sunday said the ousted premier informed him that the US Helsinki Commission had postponed its meeting for several weeks as the US Congress had elected new members which might cause some commission member changes.

According to Mr Noppadon, Mr Thaksin said that postponement of the hearing would allow him ample time to seek a visa to the US and gather more evidence on human rights violations during Thailand’s political turbulence in April and May.

In 2008, Mr Thaksin was sentenced in absentia to two years imprisonment for abusing power to facilitate a land purchase deal in Bangkok by his then wife from the Thai state. He also has an outstanding arrest warrant on terrorism charges for allegedly masterminding the violent Red Shirt rallies.

When we finally got Saddam he was in a hole but had stopped digging. Thaksin doesn't seem to learn much.

But, in his corner, Saddam didn't have Chatham House, International Crisis Group, Freedom House, CNN, BBC, the Economist, the Guardian, Huffington Post, and - like the lemmings that they are - most of the rest of the global corporate and amateur PRWeb press release devouring media of the world. And goodness knows what other powerful entities who smell 'potential' in the promotion of chaos in Thailand.

QOpXQ.png

Thaksin is no Saddam. He's a great deal craftier and vastly more intelligent than that buffoon digging holes in his own country to hide in. Kim Jong Il is doing what Saddam wanted to be doing. One rocks the KRX piggy-bank every few months for ca-ching reasons. One rocked to and fro, at the end of rope. Thaksin's brilliance makes Kim Jong Il appear dull (is my point).

Write him off and you might well be surprised very shortly, I suspect....

So far Sarah Palin has not called for Jatuporns being hunted down for terrorism, her world view is too narrow perhaps!

The view of Thailand from her house is blocked by a Russian land mass. Don't be too hard on her. It's not easy to have to cram grade school geography into a tiny 3 year window of opportunity. Let's wish her luck rather than take easy pot shots at her - or else the joke might be on the world when Americans wake up to find out their country sided with their ally North Korea and USAF B-1's were systematically levelling Seoul.

http://www.guardian....th-korea-allies

Palin: So this speaks to a bigger picture that certainly scares me in terms of our national security policy. But obviously, we've got to stand with our North Korean allies – we're bound to by treaty....

Interviewer: South Korean.

Palin: Yes, and we're also bound by prudence to stand with our South Korean allies, yes.

Just out of interest, in a Prudence v Treaty dilemma, which one historically wins out? Siding with the South "also", seems hecka duplicitous Sarah. Let's hope...news...doesn't make it to the Korean Peninsula. We might find ourselves with NO allies on either side of the DMZ!

By now totally off topic I'm afraid:

http://www.huffingto...516.html?ref=tw

I believe I speak for myself and maybe 1 or 2 others when I say it is one's Moral Duty to take this thread Off Topic. "Thaksin Continues to Gather Information on Human Rights Violations"? Josef Fritzl to present case for protecting against the erosion of the Nuclear Family in the Internet era.

God bless you, rubl. No thread with that title should be allowed to stay On Topic. imo. in my (drunk) opinion. Which could be valid...

Speaking for the EU, German chancellor Andrea Merkel said, "Obviously, we don't have that kind of money, but we'd be happy to give them Ireland."

It's amazing people have fought over that...country. I met a former IRA guy at a poker game once; a ferocious nationalist. Not only willing to kill Protestant 'scum' for the Cause, he seemed to be quite adamant they should be eliminated even after a British withdrawal. Needless to say, he didn't much care for those Sinn Féin 'traitors'. "(expletive) (expletives)"...I believe he called them.

We agreed to disagree, in the end...on whether he should kill me or not.

USA Politics / Thaksin attempts to use/ Palin attempts to use

and WIKILEAKS founder,

Assange gathering illicit leaks from USA = WIKILEAKS

Thaksin gathering information from DSI leaks, = THAKILEAKS,

Palin not calling for Jatuporn to be hunted down for terrorism

but her calling for Wikileaks founder to be hunted down or shot.

Buchholz and TheyCallmeScooter user_popup.png got it no doubt.
