Hi

I'm sure this has been answered here before but I can't find anything matching my circumstance.

I have a return flight to Aust 1 day past the end of my visa (30 day), my wife and 1 child are thai and the other 2 are aust. I see there is a 500 baht/day extension fee. Is this at the airport and is this a fine that is subject to the police on duty at the time? Or should I go to the immigration office and do the 1900 baht extension? Thanks for any info..

If you are just 1 day over there is no overstay fine at the airport, you will however get a stamp in your passport.

Children under 14 (I think, someone confirm) are not charged for overstay anyway.

The rule would be B500 per day x three people, I think according to your post B1500 payable in cash at the airport. They just may give you the one days grace.

May save you money just to go to the airport, but go a little earlier than your flight. If all family members are on overstay 5 x 500 Bhat.

500 Baht a day is the overstay fine.

At the airport you will not be charged if the overstay is only one day.

Thanks for your prompt reply..I don't normally like lite beer, but in your case I'll make an exception wink.gif

As said children under 14 do not get fined anyway.

I just read the op again and to my surprise I read that the OP has a Thai wife and one Thai child who as far as I can understand cannot overstay in the land of their birth so how and where did you come up with 5 people?

He said 1 child was Thai and "the other two are aust", so three children involved.

Yes, that's correct. I'm not worried about my wife and the eldest, just myself and the 2 youngest on aussie passports (5 and 3). I'm going to go to the airport early and wing it. Thanks for all the info.

With the two youngest overstay won't be an issue and you on just one day should be ok too, worst case scenario would be a 500 Baht fine.

Do please let us know what happens, we've had one report of a chap being charged for a single day so it would be handy to know what occurs.

Do not worry. You will not be fined with one day overstay. :)

I'll post the outcome when I get back to Oz to bring some closure!

So back in Oz now. Arrived at immigration with money ready after Thai airways letting me know I'd overstayed. Got to immigration and the kids were playing up, so the immigration guy just stamped me and let me through..no charge. I think the diversion tactic worked. dry.gif

The one day grace used to be official policy, there was a notice to that effect, also be careful many flights depart after midnight, some people think by going through immigration before midnight they escape the extra day which is not true.
