December 27, 201015 yr My retirement, multiple-entry visa that I've had for the past year or so will expire in February 2011. Is it possible to renew it for another year or do you have to file the papers, etc. all over again from scratch?
December 27, 201015 yr It can be extended for another 12 months. 2.22 In the case of a retiree: Permission will be granted for a period of not more than 1 year at a time. (3) Proof of income of not less than Baht 65,000 per month; or (4) Account deposit with a bank in Thailand of not less than 800,000 Baht as shown in the bank account for the past 3 months at the filing date of the application. For the first year, the applicant should have that amount in his bank account for not less than 60 days or (5) Annual income plus bank account deposit totaling not less than Baht 800,000 as of the filing date of application
December 27, 201015 yr do you have a multi entry non immigrant 'o' visa, or a multi entry non immigrant 'o' 'a' visa issued at an embassy/consulate abroad?
December 27, 201015 yr If you have a multi entry non immigrant O-A visa from a Consulate you can make a trip before it expires (the visa itself) and get a new one year permitted to stay. If you have a multi entry non immigrant o visa you can exit/return before it expires for a new 3 month stay. If you have a one year extension of stay from immigration with a multi re-entry permit you visit immigration with the same paperwork for a new extension of stay. Financials as in post 2
December 27, 201015 yr Thailand is a bit weird, as you don't renew or extend visas. Visas expire, but you can apply for an extension of stay. Technically it is the same, but the visa is issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the extension of stay by Immigration. I received remarks in this forum because I used the wrong terminology. In order to get an extension of stay based on retirement (which would be the same as a renewal of a retirement visa in other countries, but please bear with me), you need to prove that you are still over 50 (no cheating), and that your income - or the money in the bank, seasoned for 3 months - is still the same. In fact, it is the easiest way of extending your stay. What do you mean by "file the papers etc from scratch again"? What papers, apart from your passport and the income statement / bank account did you have to bring?
December 27, 201015 yr A visa is a visa and an extension of stay an extension of stay, both are something entirely different and it is confusing when people use the wrong term. Some information about what a visa is (and what not) can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_(document)
