ISLAMABAD (BNO NEWS) - Eighteen people were killed and 15 others wounded on Wednesday evening when a suicide car bomb hit a police station near Pakistan's northwestern city of Bannu, local news media reported.

According to police sources via Dawn News, the bomber rammed his car into Miryan police station outside of Bannu and damaged a nearby mosque. Many people were at the blast site and the casualties could further rise.

Based on local media reports, the Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, arguing it was in retaliation for U.S. drone strikes in Pakistan's tribal belt, which borders Afghanistan.

This is the third blast that took place in Pakistan on Wednesday. Two other blasts occurred in Peshawar, leaving two women killed and seven others including three children injured.
