KARACHI, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- A Pakistani news reporter was killed on Thursday after being shot in the head in the central area of Karachi in Pakistan, local media reported on Friday.

Geo News reported that one of their reporters, Wali Khan Babar - who had been covering drug-trafficking operations in Pehalwan Goth - was shot in the head while on his way back home after filing his report at work. The paper described the attack as 'a terrorist attack' in the Liaquatabad area of Karachi.

Initial reports indicate that the gunmen identified the reporter and shot him at point blank. Babar's body was later found in a car with five gunshot wounds, two in the forehead, one in the jaw, and two in the neck.

According to Reporters Without Borders, 57 journalists were killed in connection with their work in 2010, which is 25 percent fewer than in 2009, when the total was 76. In addition, 51 reporters were kidnapped, 535 arrested, and 52 physically attacked.
