Denver Broncos player arrested on gun charges

ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI (BNO NEWS) -- Denver Broncos player Shaun Maloney was arrested on gun charges on Monday night and then released on early Tuesday morning, KSDK-TV reported.

Maroney, 25, a running back in the National Football League (NFL), was arrested after being pulled over by a St. Louis patrol at about 10.30 p.m. local time. The detention took place near the Chaifetz Arena.

According to St. Louis police officers, three vehicles were circling the arena and thus slowing traffic. Several people were seen smoking inside the vehicles and two of the three vehicles were detained under the suspicions of marijuana use.

The third vehicle fled the scene and a total of six people were found inside one of the cars. Police officers seized three handguns as well as substance believed to be marijuana.

Maloney, a St. Louis native, was along the five arrested under gun charges. He was allegedly arrested for possessing a firearm while under the influence of drugs. Two passengers were arrested on possession of marijuana while three others were detained on possession of marijuana and unlawful use of a weapon.

His attorney Vanessa Antoniou later said that the Broncos running back was arrested after the guns were found inside his SUV. He was booked and released as he had a weapon permit but not at the time of his arrest.

Police said that in the second vehicle five people were detained after a gun was seized. A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a weapon.

Maloney was a first-round pick in 2006 for the New England Patriots. He was later traded to the Denver Broncos in 2010. His team has not commented on the arrest.
