Google announces management changes

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIFORNIA (BNO NEWS) -- Google Inc. on Thursday announced management changes including the designation of a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to replace Eric.

Google Co-Founder Larry Page will assume Google's day-to-day operations as Chief Executive Officer. Eric Schmidt will assume the role of Executive Chairman and Sergey Brin, Google Co-Founder, will work on strategic projects and new products.

The moves are part of Google's plans to streamline decision making and create clearer lines of responsibility and accountability at the top of the company. The changes will be effective on April 4.

"We've been talking about how best to simplify our management structure and speed up decision making for a long time. By clarifying our individual roles we'll create clearer responsibility and accountability at the top of the company," said Schmidt.

Schmidt will continue to act as an advisor to Page and Brin. However, he will focus externally on deals, partnerships, customers and broader business relationships, government outreach and technology thought leadership to enhance Google's global reach.

"Eric has clearly done an outstanding job leading Google for the last decade," said Page. "The results speak for themselves. There is no other CEO in the world that could have kept such headstrong founders so deeply involved and still run the business so brilliantly."

In addition, Google reported revenues of $8.44 billion for the fourth quarter of 2010. The data represents an increase of 26% compared to the fourth quarter of 2009.
