Oh please!!!!

The President is responsible for everything that has gone bad or well here? Gimme a <deleted>' break!

As much as I don't really care for Clinton andhis legacy, even I wouldn't lay that kind of baggage on him, if this would have happened during his term. It is nonsensical and laughable.

No,but he responsible for helping his people when they are in the <deleted>...or have I got that wrong? :o

FBI I suppose is under his influence.

The local Louisiana Police Forces, or rescue services there or in other States certainly aren't.

Last time I checked, the President and his entourage are on the ground in the immediate area, and are making every effort to deal with the situation as best as they can. I think he has also already requested what, about $10B in emergency funding, just to deal with the immediate problems.

This is a non-partisan thing. I'm sure that Clinton, Bush Sr, Reagan, Carter and every other President going back through time would be doing the exact same thing that Bush II is doing, which is trying to make the best of the most difficult of scenarios.

The BBC has just run a special from the USA disaster area using the same journalists who covered the Tsunami.

It was a chilling indictment of the lack of response from the responsible authorities.

With all due respect, we live in the day and age of "if it bleeds, it leads." There is no benefit to the slimely news broadcasters, for producing stories of things going right (which I'm sure there are many).

The fact is that it "makes better news" to show the agony and the lawlessness.

And answer me this, why are most of the major news outlets focused on New Orleans, which is a small percentage of the overall affected area? I'll tell you. Because that is "where the action is!"

This is were you are unfortunately in error. You obviously did not see the BBC broadcast. For the first it was not sensationalist (in fact the opposite: not naming the reported murders in the Superdome or any other unlawlessness) but questioned the wisdom of housing hospital patients and families, for any period of time in a building with toilet facilities based on, at the highest, 4 hours occupation. And questioning how it can be that not even the increasing number of dead have yet to be removed from this building. It discussed the relationship between the law keeping agencies and the citizenry, but only in terms of how inadequate these agencies were equipped, materially or empathetically to deal with the situation, but also their absence.. The most sensational was the overhead picture of a jail, where all the prisoners were clinging to the dividing walls between their cells to keep alive - locked in a flooded prison like rats in a cage (my words).

Forgive me, but this is closer to exploitation than to legitimate reporting.

Frankly, I stunned at the level of devastation. I cannot help but feel for the people who are suffering, and feel obligated to make some sort of donation. But most of the reporting and all the political cheap shots getting thrown around just make me sick.

Each death through negligence and incompetence should hammer a nail in Bush's presidency deeper than any Watergate, Monica Lewinsky or the losing of the war in Iraq.

The Criticisms of the President did not come from either the reporters or any of the distressed victims, or even anyone with a political agenda.

But were made by two Washington former advisors to two previous Presidents. One was an advisor to President Clinton, the other to President Reagen. They were in agreement.

...

Yep, he's on the ground now Spee, but it took him a few days. :D

On yeah ... I'm sure he's been sitting idle in the oval office, playing with himself and completely ignoring what's going on all week. Gimme a <deleted>' break!

This is a non-partisan thing. Anyone who is trying to extract partisan gain from this tragedy ought to be drawn and quartered.

They should start with the NO Mayor. That guy has completely lost it and cracked up. Did you listen to his radio inteview rebroadcasts? He's completely without composure and has gone over the edge. Instead of sounding like an angry little whiner, he should be demonstrating leadership and courage and helping people to remain hopeful and positive.

I propose we float Thomas down the Mississippi River and moor his tonnage to block up the gaps in the tidal defences.

Like the little Dutch Boy.

We are talking about the most technologically advanced nation in the world - without which there would be no Internet - with all it's fine tuned post 911 infrastructure.

Why - why does it take 3 days (I'm being generous here) for this land's President to get off his ass and even acknowledge the extent of this disaster?

No disrespect, but this is a crisis. In a crisis, one approaches the problems using triage. Triage isn't perfect. Sometimes people suffer while others are treated. So forgive me for saying so, and I mean no disrespect to them as fellow human beings and I feel bad for those who suffered, but convicts in a prison deserve to be and should be at or near the bottom of the priority list.

Catherine The Great died having sexual relations with a horse. The harness broke as it was being lowered on to her.

I'm not a fan of Dubya but he can be taken to task later and no doubt he'll lay a bit of blame around as well but as you say, now's not the time.

I did catch the New Orleans Mayor's entire radio rebroadcast and have to agree, he must at all costs put leadership ahead of public whinging (and basically losing it) which is a morale destroyer. He has a bonified right to be pissed tho and I share his amazement there aren't hundreds of buses lined up to take ppl out of the domes and flood areas. One does wonder what the ###### is going on in the chain of command over there?

I find it interesting that most of those people in despair are black. Coincidence ? where was Colin Powell ? they sent him to the UN, why not Atlanta ?

For once, I don't think Bush is personally responsible for this. Probably too busy vacationing on his ranch. However I do think that his administration incompetence bear some responsabilities. Heads will roll.

I find it interesting that most of those people in despair are black. Coincidence ? where was Colin Powell ? they sent him to the UN, why not Atlanta ?

My point exactly...P Diddy, Sidney Poitier, Joe Frazier, Michael Jackson (and Tito and Jermaine and Marlon and Jesse of the Jackson 5 ), Maurice Chevalier....where were you?

I find it interesting that most of those people in despair are black. Coincidence ?

I believe this is part of what Spee was referring to earlier, not the time. Undoubtedly, the 'race card' will be pathetically or justifiably (to some, not me) dragged out later, or likely sooner (ie "if this were in a whitebread area, quicker response etc) :o Nonsense, it's a serious catastrophe combined with a serious lack of aftermath preparedness on this scale and confused chain of command it appears. Lessons WILL undoubtedly be learned.

where was Colin Powell ? they sent him to the UN, why not Atlanta ?

I know that's said tongue firmly in cheek but it's more cheek at the mo imho...

It's a pity Colon Powell is not the Pres.

It's a pity Colon Powell is not the Pres.

I think anyone but the current pres would be an improvement at the moment
