I agree.....  THANKS!!!!!!!!!

I guess you mean the fast and abundant help offered by the president .

but him loving african americans and being a good christ, he couldn't do anything else.

maybe that's why he stayed on vacation until wednesday, and that's why help from the FEMA (federal emergency management agency) couldn't reach anyone until now :

for the tsunami it was easy, everyone knew long in advance, that it would happen, where it would happen, and what would happen - easy to get help there where needed within 24 hours.

Katrina took everyone by surprise as she appeared from nowhere on monday, and of course how could you drop food, water... from helis so far away?

how could you get troops in there in time - it always takes long to plan something like this, and helis are not available in the US, apart from the 11 transport helis on standby on mobile airport yesterday when the president visited the devasteted places.

I'm sure that has nothing to do with now having no election, and the most affected states (Louisiana and MIssissippi) having a majority african/american population, and the government not being to kean on gambling, and the Mississippi gulf coast : Biloxi, Gulfport being casino towns, even New Orleans.

What I don't understand how CNN could bring in several teams from all over the country into the affected areas on monday, with all their heavy equipment, when the US military cannot drop food or nationl guards?

can you imagine the superdome with about 7.000 to 8.000 pople, and the convention center with close to 15.000 being for five days without food, without water, how would the toilets alone look?

I agree, better not to worry, stay on vacation, Mr. Good!!

the help agreed by congress, 10.5 billion, will reach the oil companies soon enough!

There may be (usually friendly) Yank baiting on this board but when something like this happens it feels good that many countries that have received aid from the US in the past are returning the favour, even as a token gesture.

By Friday, offers had been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, Guatemala, Paraguay, Belgium, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Italy, Guyana, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Austria, Lithuania, Spain, Dominica, Norway, Cuba, Bahamas, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ecuador, Iceland, India, Jordan, Luxembourg, the Philippines, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand and Turkey.

You are all more than welcome.

Its a disgrace on the USA.

On Fox this morning the reporters are just about cracking up with frustration. They not letting people move and they not helping them to survive were they are.

I can't believe they could not have mobilized the army and national guard on the first day,and where not prepared for a disaster on this scale.

Just thought it was appropriate to say THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To those ladies who do lunch? :o

You know this had nothing to do with Yank Baiting I'm American, or politics for that matter nor judgement on performance. It was just as it was written a simple thanks to the world who came to the aid of my home country.

tat's normal and should always be like this, but nevertheless I stick to my point that it is an absolute disgrace what the government has been doing, or rather could have done but has not been doing, and will happily accept and apologize if you can give me a good reason for this behaviour of the commander in charge.

that is certainly "no yank baiting" just outrage over the behaviour of a man who calls himself "devot christian" but let his countryman die, while staying on holiday! :o

are there any governments that do the right thing???

you have missed the point of the topic, which is a guy being grateful for the compassion of other nations willing to help and other individuals who realise what a tradgedy this has been.

i dont thing people should compare other recent events or how other governments/leaders dealt with things, its not a competition

if people feel so strongly about it why not try to do something to make it better?

I think the failures of the relief effort show the weakness in having all your eggs in one basket. Too many cheifs and no indians so to speak.

CIA FBI Pentagon FEMA and its NGO aparatus Red Cross and so on, they are all part of the Homeland Security apratus and hand down information and orders and handle upward request from states, both state police and city police.

Now they are busy pointing fingers at each other, too bad. I think they need to be shoulder to shoulder instead of toe to toe.

The only agency I know of that is independent and only communicates with all the above is the Texas Rangers.

Thanks should be and is given here to Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, Guatemala, Paraguay, Belgium, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Italy, Guyana, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Austria, Lithuania, Spain, Dominica, Norway, Cuba, Bahamas, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ecuador, Iceland, India, Jordan, Luxembourg, the Philippines, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand and Turkey.

Your offers and help is much appreciated.

Totally agree with the thank given obviously. I will not defend the short comings of the system, it definetly could use some better direction, since these plans are supposedly already in place and practised. That being said my home state is California, lots of earthquakes and we were always told to be ready to be a week on our own. Some people key word some actually did prepare for that, with water supplies, food, first aid equipment and at best minmum items to take care of basic needs. I have always owned camping equipment and never went camping till I came here. I have enough in my house to get by that week even today in Thailand.

Would that approach have helped in a major flood of the magnitude we saw here, I don't know. I think it is a mistake to rely on an immediate reponse in such a case, from the government. Government units that are local to the disaster are effected in the same way as the community, and will not be functioning for a period of time. The logistics of moving thousands of people in the form of manpower and equipment is mind boggling. Local authority failed in this instance in some ways, the New Orleans P.D. had lots of officers who did not respond. I'm sure lots by choice. But never forget they are subject to the same catastrophy, how many were dead or injuried who knows. How many said my family comes first. Think about that, could you walk away from your family and go to your job?

We had systems in place to check our families, in a disaster so that we could go do the job we needed to do. Did they have that I don't know.

The shear numbers that the local government had to deal with was far beyond anything they were designed to handle. They were overwhelmed and that was that.

I will simply urge all of you here to prepare yourself as much a possible for the unforseen. It wasn't that long ago when Udon was under water for a period of time. Things can and do happen, no matter where you live. somtimes no matter what you do to prepare for the problem it will never be enough. But that little bit of an edge on the problem may carry you and your family through.

I was amazed at how fast the world came to the aid of the U.S. and I will never forget it.

Yes thats correct in the instances I see it full.

I have no idea what you are angry about, but I doubt that it has very little to do with me.

I sometimes wonder why for some in life everything breaks down to being angry, just don't understand it. I hope some good comes in your life and you have as happy a life as I do. Best wishes
