2 Nigerian men arrested for allegedly selling 13kgs of cocaine

Two Nigerian have been arrested in Bangkok after police found 13 kilogramms of cocaine with one of them.

Initiaally police arrested Nigerian national Chika Cletus Onwukwe, 30, in Sai Mai district after police found 13kgs of cocaine in his Toyota Yaris car at the mount of Soi Phaholyothin 58.

He arrested in a sting operation.

Onwukwe then offered to pay to police Bt300,000 in cash to police in exchange for his release and promised the officers another Bt300,000 in cash they could pick up from his friend Akudo Gilbert Ndigwe, 51, at a nearby gas station.

So police went along and arrested Ndigwe as well. The two were charged of having cocaine in possession with intention to sell and bribing police officers.

13 kilos? 600k is an insult bribe.

This is simply more bargaining leverage. a month in the Hilton and the drugs in a police locker and that number will be greatly increased.

Guess everybody knows that these guys are selling cocaine for such a long time. Is it possible that they paid the wrong cop, or forgot to mention that they had some other business going on?

I'd worked with a Nigerian "lady" who became a school teacher here. She's always saying when she made her way to lunch: "I go eat myself." Problem was that she must have had 200 kg, way too much to do it.

The police probably took the deal of 300K, got to the gas station pocketed 300K and then arrest the two anyway. Do you really think that the Thai police would listen to drug dealers that their own people in the same force took money and yet arrested them??

The drugs are then re-sold by the police on the streets. Actually 20kg was confiscated but 13 made it to Narcotics division if any.

Legitimately interesting angle, from a couple of angles. Apologies to the police if they were completely on the up and up, but the cynic in me can't help but note the genius in broadcasting amounts offered as bribes (regardless of whether or not the offers actually were made, or whether or not the reported amounts are accurate). It would certainly help with some tricky negotiations in the future perhaps?

What possible reason could there be for publishing the offered amounts, if not this one? I'm coming up with blanks....?

Same old story. Gotta generate some stats, can't have no big seizures what with the drug scourge having overwhelmed the world some time back.

I think these fine officers should be rewarded for their investigative skills, and immediately assigned to a prestigious and challenging investigation which has stumped the Royal Thai Police forces for some time now - illegal prostitution.

Look, they might not be able to setup an equally effective sting, but it's worth a shot right? I might even be able to help them, I have a 'lead' or two in Ratchada. There are some monumental hotels there which wouldn't let me book accommodation. Maybe they were just booked out completely, maybe they didn't like the cut of my jib, but there were a lot of pretty girls around and a veritable flood of men milling about.
