Researcher: Mona Lisa Really da Vinci's Gay Lover

(KTLA) -- There's a new debate brewing about Leonardo da Vinci's famous muse. Was the Mona Lisa really a man?

Researcher Silvano Vicenti, the head of Italy's National Historic Commission, says he thinks so!

It's long been thought the Mona Lisa was a portrait of a local merchant's wife, but now it seems things might not be that simple.

Vicenti said at a press conference in Rome Wednesday that the Mona Lisa's real name was Gian Giacomo Caprotti, known as Salai.

I can't wait for the Right Wing Christian fundamentalists to get a hold of this. It will become X rated, not fit for children to view. Children under 18 will not be allowed to go to France for fear of viewing this 'crime against nature.' Poor kids will have to go to Amsterdam where they can't get into any trouble!

A supposed drawing of Salai by Leonardo does exist, and looks nothing like the Mona Lisa. But then, who cares if it makes a titillating story?
