SULAIMANIYA, IRAQ (BNO NEWS) -- A small plane on Friday crashed at an airport in the northern city of Sulaimaniya, the Aswat al-Iraq news agency reported.

The cargo plane crashed during landing at the Sulaimaniya International Airport located in the Iraqi semi-autonomous northern Kurdish region. The plane caught on fire and the seven people on board died.

The plane was carrying two pilots, a flight attendant and four businessmen. In addition, six individuals were injured due to the fire after the crash.

The causes of the accident have not been determined yet but the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan said that the bad weather was the reason. However, authorities are also considering a technical fault as the cause.

Firefighters were deployed to the site and the fire has been contained. Despite the fatal accident, the Sulaimaniya was reopened shortly after.
