TEHRAN, IRAN (BNO NEWS) -- Iran on Monday unveiled its home-made IRGC supersonic anti-ship ballistic missile and four models of satellites, the Fars news agency reported.

The IRGC smart anti-ship ballistic missile can hit targets with high precision and cannot be tracked or intercepted due to its supersonic speed, according to the Commander of the Iranian Army Gen. Mohammad Ali Jafari.

General Jafari added that Iran has begun started mass-production of the recently-developed IRGC smart missile which was named The Persian Gulf. The missile was designed to hit and destroy sea-based targets with high-precision within a reack of 300 kilometers.

Iran launched its arms development program during the 1980-88 armed conflict with Iraq. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own jet fighters and armored vehicles as well as radar-avoiding missiles and other high-tech weapons.

In another ceremony in Tehran, Iran unveiled the prototypes of four home-made satellites in the presence of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Defense Minister Gen. Ahmad Vahidi.

The satellites are named 'Zafar' (Victory), 'Rasad 1' (Observation 1), Fajr (Dawn) and 'A Test'. Iran also presented a satellite carrier named 'Safir B1' (Ambassador B1) and a bio-capsule named 'Kavoshgar 4' (Explorer 4).

The satellite prototypes were developed by the Iranian Defense Ministry using advanced technology. The two satellites, Fajr and Rasad 1, will be sent to space in the near future as announced on Saturday.

In addition, Ahmadinejad said on Monday that an Iran's measurement satellite will be launched into space in late 2011. The Iranian leader noted that the Islamic nation plans to send astronauts into space in 2024.

impressive technology..seems iran has managed to keep the dreaded developing country brain-drain from completely decimating their industries.. considering they lost alot of talented people during the 1979 revolution and subsequent misery during the 1980's wars and isolationism.
