After looking a long time in vain, I finally stumbled across 500g packages of brown rice flour, which is naturally gluten free, at the Villa Market, Sukhumvit Soi 33... Believe it's a brand imported from Australia...

Brown rice flour is of value to people for a couple of different reasons.

--some people have food allergies to wheat and/or gluten (which is a substance within wheat and similar grains like oats, barley, rye). So that makes common baked products like breads and such (which are most commonly made in whole or in part from wheat flours) something of a problem. Because brown rice flour is gluten and wheat free, it is one of the best baking flour alternatives for when wheat flours would otherwise be used.

And since gluten free breads and such are very difficult to find in the stores here in Thailand (more difficult than in say western countries like the U.S.), people with that allergy pretty much need to buy brown rice flour and bake their own breads if they want to eat them.

PS - it also has a kind of nutty flavor that makes a very tasty bread.

--some people also have something that is called Celiac's disease or sensitivity, in which eating gluten containing foods can cause a serious medical problem and damage to their intestinal tract. For those people, it's very important to avoid all foods containing any gluten which (apart from baked goods) can show up in smaller ways in many other kinds of foods and sauces..

Hi JFC

I think I saw a gluten free display of various items in TOPS supermarket (under Robinson) near Soi 19. If you wish, I will note the location next time I am there and advise.

Gene, it would be great if you'd do that...

I shop there at the Tops from time to time, but don't recall them having any GF display there...
