One confirmed dead in natural gas plant explosion in Texas

2011-02-10 14:06:52 GMT+7 (ICT)

HOUSTON, TEXAS (BNO NEWS) -- The death of the one missing person in Tuesday's explosion and fire at a natural gas plant outside Houston, Texas, was confirmed on Wednesday, the company stated.

Tuesday's explosion occurred shortly after 12 p.m. local time at Enterprise Products, which is located in Mont Belvieu, Texas, around 35 miles east of Houston, but relief crews were eventually able to put the fire out.

No injuries were reported, as all but one worker were able to exit safely.

Enterprise late Wednesday confirmed the death on one worker, offering its condolences to the family and friends of the individual, and stating that it would be working closely with authorities to determine the cause of the fire.

Even though the company did not identify the victim, local media previously reported that the missing person was Rick Shaw, 43, who was a maintenance contract worker employed by Turner Industries.

The cause of the incident is still unclear, but for many hours, company officials remained worried and uncertain whether the fire was being fed by gas products stored in underground caverns.

According to law, investigations may officially continue for up to six months.
