How much on an hourly rate would a JCB cost.

Just curious the wife is wanting to clear some land and has been quoted 1,100 baht/hour with standard 2 thai blokes as help included.

Am thinking this is a bit on the expensive side so thought id put it out there and see how much everyone else pays.

Her land is in Phetchabun.

Hi joker7,

Are we to assume that a JCB is a wheel backhoe / bucket loader?

Somewhat equivalent to a Cat 417

Around here a full size track hoe (Makro Thais call it)

such as a Cat 320 goes for B1,000 per hour.

Tractor work from a Ford 6610

of the general size of a JCB backhoe in plowing fields

or dozer work I paid B600 per hour.

Moving a lot of material a short distance with a combination of

Track hoe

Dump truck

Dozer blade on Farm Tractor

went for B25 / cubic meter,

when a friend in Chiang Mai built a series of fish ponds in what once was a rice paddy.

B1,100 per hour for a tractor size wheel backhoe / loader therefore sounds high.

Ok have a bit more information isnt actually a JCB. Something along the lines of the picture shown.

We have 72 Rai to clear, lots of trees which will be cut with the roots/tree stumps taken out, 2 big ponds which will be filled in, road to widen, level out some land etc.

Any more info would be good.post-34388-0-07183300-1297491678_thumb.j

Backhoe Hire - 20 Tonner - Cat320 or similar 10,000 to 15,000 per day inc. fuel and operator. Price dependant on age of machine & operator skill. (Cat320 uses between 200L & 250L of fuel operating continously for 8 hours.

Tractor(Bull-dozer) hire - CatD4 - about 8,000B - 12,000B per day. (As above)

10 Wheel Dump truck - 5,000B - 8000B per day (As above - with distance restictions)

A rough ballpark figure for clearing land that is medium to densely overgrown should be in the region of 3,500B to 5,000B per Rai (inclusive of burning off).

Hope this is some help. :)

Note: Cheapest quote is not the best way to go with machinery hire. If you are hiring per day go with a newer, more expensive machine with an operator who knows what he is doing. He will achieve 3 - 5 times as much work as someone with less experience or un-reliable machine. Also, you could ask for an all inclusive price from the contractor, however, make sure both parties expectations of what the work comprises of are the same.

That nice little Cat D4 would be insulted if it heard you called it a JCB

Someone correct if I'm mistaken,

but I've not seen a JCB dozer.

A D4 class dozer really isn't up for serious land clearing.

You need a trackhoe and dump truck first,

then a D4 with a 6 way blade for fine grading.

For a job as big as you are talking,

I'd suggest a deal that I heard of at Nim See Seng in Chiang Mai.

Their yard is located at Super Highway and Mae Jo Road.

It was a Cat 427 backhoe, 4 wheel drive, extendahoe, 3in1 bucket,

for sale at what seemed a reasonable price,

and they would then promise to buy it back up to a year later.

That would give you a year to finish your job

I can get the details on it again from the guy who told me

if needed.

Don't know what a Cat427 is, but a Cat 420 Series or JCB (pic of Cat420D below) would take a lot of time to complete a large job like the OP is undertaking. Would suggest larger equipment.
