I'd like to prove that there are harmful bacteria in said pool, evidence of low chlorine levels would of course be a bounus but prove nothing about the presence of bacteria.

Yes, thank you I knew that more then 20 years of professional pool experience would come into play at some point in my life and if you have bacteria in your pool it's a given it's because you have low chlorine levels (read not really detectable) and no reason to test for it in that case as it's a given there is bacteria and the water color and clarity will show you..

The only exception to this is possibly the Cryptosporidiosis bacterium as it has an outer shell which is resistant to chlorine and other types of chemical sanitation..

Not likely and moreover not necessary, as I've explained even in low chlorine levels (detectable) most bacteria is not going to survive with the exception of the one I listed above as CL2 is an oxidizer and breaks down the bacteria on contact but if a pool is actually green, or discolored in any other non chemically related way and not clear it's a moot point as it is virtually certain it has bacteria in that case..

If the person you're trying to convince isn't and are that daft? I can only tell you to print up some pages on the need for proper pool water chemistry and sanitation and then stay away from that pool..

rather than spending money on a time consuming and expensive bacteria test, why not just shock clorine it? approx 200 baht for 1,7 kg for 100m3 pool. then check clorine level and ph 3 days later and balance it, and keep maintain cloring it. simple fix

Yes Kata it is, but as he mentioned he's trying to prove his point to an apparently dull pencil that where ever this pool is it contains bacteria. I just hope he isn't the one being thick and assuming that all pools regardless of Cl2 levels contain bacteria, if that's the case he'd have to eat crow.. It doesn't seem to be his pool or it is and the pool maintenance guy is thick as mud in which case the argument should be foregone and another pool tech sourced..

at any pool supplyer at couple hundred baht,

sample at least 50 cm under water surface, and far away from eyballs
