Hi, got back last night from visa run to Savvankhet and thought I'd post some info on here..... I took the VIP bus from Mo Chit at 8pm on Sunaday which cost 540 THB and arrived at Mukdahan Bus station about 06.30. It was <deleted> freezing and I only had shorts etc... on, will defo be checking the forecast next time!! I bought a bus ticket to Savvanakhet bus station in Laos via the Friendship Bridge which cost 50 Baht. First bus 0730. Through Thai immigration, across the bridge and then to Laos immigration. Only 2 people needed a visa on arrival so it took 2 minutes to process visa unlike Nong Khai where it took me about an hour. Cost for UK citizen was 35 USD. Had to pay another 40 THB at Laos immigration, for what don’t know. Got back on the same bus to Savvankhet bus station where I got off and took a tuk-tuk to the embassy for 50 THB. Got a copy of Laos visa application form from a small hut across from the embassy, otherwise you had to queue up to get one and then queue again to hand in. Stood in queue to hand in visa, took about 10 minutes, confirmed with the officer I wanted a double entry tourist visa. Come back tomorrow at 2pm. All this achieved by 0930.

Got into a guesthouse, the Happy Mekong, was 10 USD but wouldn’t particularly recommend it. Tried the Saisouk Guesthouse which had been recommended but it was full.

Went back to embassy the next day at 2. Officer was calling out the numbers, I was number 33, waited about 10 mins, picked up visa then tuk-tuk back to the bus station for trip in reverse order. Got a 1st class bus at 1630 for a cost of 488 THB. Stopped in Ubon for about an hour and arrived back in BKK at 4am.

Hope this helps at least one other person!

Cheers

Thanks for the report. Me and my mate are going this week (He needs a visa, I am just going along). Can you confirm it is $35 not $30 for the Laos Visa.

Thanks
