Cotton Around New Born Babies Neck

Featured Replies

Hi all, just wondering what the thoughts are about the safety of the cotton that is tied loosely around a new born babies neck, similar to the wrists?

I'm very concerned about the safety aspect, the Thai's seem to ignore the safety aspect for the religious aspect.

I havent seen it, around the wrist yes but not around the neck...

My point of view as a mom is never to put anything around a baby's or infants neck!

They might chocke or something like that.

Being european and raising my child in Thaiiland Ive come across many aspects to deal with cultural as religion wise...I try to respect all of it as best as I can but my kid is half Thai and so I am very carefull to also make sure somethings from my culture are very clear in her upbringing and besides that common sense is just very relevant when having children, so think twice before you put anything around your new born's neck is my advice [no matter if the rest of Thailand does it to their babies!]

I got rid of both wrist and everything else bands that come from the temple and the monk....

besides, everyone coming to visit is understood that there is no food nor fruits from the temple either....

they are all, imho, injurious to infants' health and well being....

Most often, when I got home while relatives were still visiting, I just calmly untied dthose white stuff and tied them around those who were kind enough to bring them.... with a huge smile and a big--krop kun mark krub.... and for those northeasterners, I would humbly trying to pronounce--krop kun lai lai ner....
