Doctor Backs Thai Airways Slimming Policy

A doctor has come out in support of a new rule by Thai Airways International requiring overweight employees to lose the extra pounds.

So, now they say they are making ALL EMPLOYEES be within a certain waist size? If these regulations are applied to all employees (without a Dr. note) then I might believe the policy had something to do with health but I still believe it is only directed at the Flight Attendants.

Next they will demand a certain bust size and get a psychologist to say breast enhancement surgery makes women feel better about themselves and we applaud Thai airlines for caring about the mental health of their employees.

Why should ALL employees be subject to it. I don't care if a pilot is carrying more weight and looks like the hunchback of notre dame as long as he/she can do the job. I don't care if baggage handlers have been beaten over the head with the ugly stick either. But when it comes to contact with the public, give them what they want. Businesses are always looking for an edge, if that means employing good sorts or porn stars or overweight women/men, then go for it, whatever the masses want to pay for is ok with me.

Nobody insinuated ALL employees should but if this is about health of their employees then it would be an across the board policy. If it is about titillating their customers then they should be honest about this .... unless they think what their doing could be viewed negatively by many of their customers and potential customers.

If an employer was ever honest about their employment policy then the hounds would be at their feet. Better to just make up policies and excuses then just hire who they think best suits them.

Can't really do that in the west, one wrong move and it's off to court.

I would actually prefer employers in my country actually stated in black and white who they wanted. Would have saved me a hell of a lot of time putting in a resume that got nowhere.

I would 'think" even in the west that you can discriminate based on looks for certain positions such as a Vegas Show Girl. They know they have to maintain a certain size and look to keep their job. I actually have no problem with flight attendants being required to be attractive but as you say this should be mentioned up front. I think an airline should even have a right to change policy and tell current flight attendants they are pushing a more titillating image for their passengers BUT they should give current employees a chance to meet the requirements or transfer to another job and not sh@t can them without compensation for being who they were when they got hired.

Is there any truth to a movement to limit the entry to go go / beer bars to males of normal body weight / body proportions / BMI ??

I sure hope not!!!! I'd prefer to have the gross beer bellies in the go-go bars, rather than on the streets where I have to look at them!
