What does the U.K. Embassy have to do with anything? You wouldn't be extending anything, but you can apply for a 60 day Tourist Visa at the Thai Consulate, or get 15 days visa exempt entering by land.

The UK Embassy has nothing to do with issue of visas to Thailand. Believe you are thinking of the Royal Thai Consulate in Vientiane for a free tourist visa allowing 60 days (for most nationalities). That would seem the logical move for you and your wife could go with you with either passport or border pass using ID card. With Thai marriage certificate you could also obtain a non immigrant O visa but would have to pay for that.

You will love spending the night in Vientiane I always do, and although I am on a retirement visa and do not need a visa I am going tomorrow, maybe like you going a little crazy in the country, girlfriend does not speak much English etc...Lots of hotels and guest houses for $10 bucks a night....Enjoy yourself young man, life is too short. I may even sped two nights...The girlfriend understands and says ok... and ."Can I go with you next time." Not......

Double entry tourist visa are free until March 31. That's is 2x60/30 good for 6 months. at the Thai consulate building separate from the Thai embassy in Vientiane Lao
