Thai Horror Film Wins 3 Awards at Festival in Washington

The Thai horror film Sop Mai Ngeab, has won three awards at an international film festival in the United States.

The Thai horror film Sop Mai Ngeab, or “Mindfulness and Murder”, directed by Thai-English Tom Waller, won Best Actor Award for lead actor Vitthaya Pansringam, Best Director Award for Tom Waller, and Best Cinematography Award for Wade Muller at the “International Thriller and Spy Film Festival 2010” held in Washington D.C.

Film director Waller, who has worked in the film industry for more than a decade, disclosed that this was his first experience as a director.

“Mindfulness and Murder” is based on the novel “Mindfulness and Murder” written by former journalist Nick Wilgus.

It tells the story of a Buddhist monk in Thailand who must use the skills he acquired as a detective to solve the homicide of a youth slain at a Buddhist monastery.

Waller said it is not easy to present a religious story, but he worked hard to learn about the religion.

He said he is proud of having received the three awards, after the film has been screened at several film festivals. Waller said he is especially excited about the film's launch in Thailand.

The film stars Vitthaya Pansringam, Prinya Intachai, better known as Way from the hip-hop group Thaitanium, Chareena Sirisinha or Kaew from pop band ZaZa, and Wipawee Charoenpura.

The film is set to hit Thai theaters nationwide on April 6.
