Flights from Amman Jordan to Suvarnabhumu Bangkok with royal Jordanian airlines?

Anyone travel this route is it safe? looks very cheep Flights from Cuprus-Jordan-Bangkok Return

Thinking of traveling in April I will be in Cyprus 4th April any comments welcome Pat

I flew with them a few years ago to London (via Amman) and found them very acceptable.

We had a stopover in Amman as well which was probably one of the better organised stopovers I've experienced,

I also used them many years ago and they were ok. I wouldn't say they were amazing or anything but there many many worse airlines to use. they are usually cheap and we did the route from LHR.

you could do a lot worse for your money

I flew them a few years ago on short haul to Tel Aviv and they were fine. But one thing to avoid is a long layover in the Amman airport. Not fun. Blaring loud announcements every 30 seconds, people smoking everywhere, little to do ...

Ethihad and Emirates are based even closer to hotspots than Amman, but I've yet to hear someone worry about those airlines. I haven't been through Amman's airport in 2 1/2 years but I don't remember any major problems.

Jordan is nearer Libya than the UAE is. It is also one of the more developed and calmer Arab countries. I wouldn't be worried.

The layover at Amman is no problem, go to the transfer desk, get the onward ticket, got through immigration where you will get a transit visa. Make your way outside the airport and get on the transit bus, this will take you to a hotel nearby where they will book you in. Watch TV, have a shower, get some sleep. Breakfast is included in the restaurant. Get back on the bus, check in and get on the plane.

One thing to note.. give yourself plenty of time to get checked in at the airport, maybe an hour or 2 to be on the safe side, security into the check in area can be slow, and arabs don't like to queue nicely.

I did it a few years back too and had a long wait. The bar was closed, and I assumed some religious day was in force.

Is this usually the case as I don't mind a wait if I can gety a bit "relaxed."

P.S. There is currently some unrest in Jordan, in line with what is happpening in the area.

OP is going from Jordan to Cyprus, therefore most probably not entitled to a hotel stay.

I think RJ applies this to any layover that exceeds a certain time, 6-7 hrs possibly.

Did the AMM -BKK -AMM recently and have to say rather eventless and standard. Food is okish and plain to hot but then I am from more up north.

Amman is terrible airport with no decent food and enough of the standard airport drink outlets.

When you arrive in Amman you go to the airport tranfer desk and they will most likely put you in a hotel as the airport is not that big and I believe the threshold is 6 hours (check their website)

Airplane is recent A330 if I remember well.

OK booked a flight LHR to BKK with them today as the price of £405 return way too good to miss.

Is there a bar at Amman airport?

Also we have a 7 hour layover on the way back....can we leave the airport and go for a wander? Any suggestions of things to do for 2-3 hours would be welcome.

Cheers! :jap:

Edit: Doh...is smoking allowed at the airport?

Thanks Totster I had read that however our flight arrives at 0515 and leaves at 1150 so I doubt the hotel is available. Is it possible to just leave and find a coffeeshop to chill at for an hour or two for example?

Anything but waiting in the terminal really.

Thanks again.

I'm quite sure that those are approximately the same times when I last flew with them.

There is nothing outside the aiport.

I've done the LHR/AMMAN/BKK before. Pretty good value.Tosters info is spot on!

Got to say if anyone is going to Bkk from Heathrow and staying less than a month, Eva air can't really be beaten! Direct flights from between £480-580. Personal tv screens and great selection of entertainment.

Thanks Toaster

I did the LHR/AMMAN/BKK JA flight, bus to hotel and dinner included in the price no problems (about 550 euros)
