Thai Court Hands Hardline Red-Shirt 4-Year Jail Sentence

There is a chap called Mandela who did the same thing ( and far far far worse) in South Africa. He turned out becoming President of the country. Todays "terrorists" become tomorrows "freedom fighters" sometimes. Hope for your blood pressures sake that the winning side is your side when this little diversion is over. Otherwise you may have to find another tropical clime to call "home" and pretend that your views do matter to the locals.

You're right in that I probably would consider leaving Thailand if for some reason, this turned into a "victory sign" after K-Thong was elected Prime Minister:

One thing I would disagree with and that is I don't need to pretend my views matter to the locals. Having 12 Thais change the party they vote for after discussing issues with me over time is proof, albeit small, that I do have some degree of impact.

.

Impact ? you are joking ? because that is really funny. How long have you been here ? Dear me get a life.

Then you are clearly over estimating your insignificant input, 12 out of 60+ million is not an impact................except for you and the 12 of course.........who do you think you are........Jesus?

No, just someone who admittedly makes a small difference.

Sorry for you if you feel you make no difference whatsoever.

Must be tough to live here with that frame of mind.

My wife is Thai, she influences hundreds of people in local politics, she was successful in assisting her chosen candidate to be newly installed at the last election. Unseating a person who had occupied the position for some considerable length of time.

I am proud of her efforts and in no way would I even think of sharing in her success, or even attempting to influence her politcal preferences, her country, her way.

I concentrate on areas where I can make a difference. Thai politics is not even on my list........hence to me your "small difference" (your words) is insignificant...........

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further explanation or clarification.

They will keep agreeing with you while you keep filling their glass .

Farangs are just farangs here & that is it . Accept it & maybe you will be able to talk about something good like football .

If all of your Thai friends are nothing more than opportunistic drinking buddies, I feel sorry for you.

Realize, however, that not everyone here is in the same situation as yourself.

btw, I have no interest in turning anyone into a "right wing extreamist [sic]"... nor is anyone in the family "some poor uneducated 3rd world person"

Still think you are important

It really is funny .

I never said I thought of myself as important.

Just that I didn't think of myself as some insignificant hunk of coal that supported alcoholic friends.

btw, as that's your third post in the thread, did you ever intend to actually make even one post that is on the subject of the topic? or are you here just to attempt to deride other members?

I just thought I would make a point about importance . You assume a lot yet you don't know me . 1, I do not drink 2 I do not need to be back slapping myself & feeling all important ,especially in a third world country where a drink can get most on side .

The Reds will win the election ,just as they have the last 3 or 4 .

There is no stopping the people & nor should there be . They was robbed of what they voted for & have lived under junta government by proxy .

Some would say this guy is not a terrorist but a freedom fighter .

Nor do you know me, hence my surprise by your overly-personal attack that initiated the dialogue.

1. Sorry, I was just going by your post on your assessment of Thais in Thailand:

"They will keep agreeing with you while you keep filling their glass ."

It sounded like that had been your experience while here.

2. A brief and self-admittedly small contribution is hardly "back slapping" nor an indication of "feeling all important."

Just because someone feels they may have an impact on a few people, apparently unlike yourself, is no reason to hysterically exaggerate it out to becoming some sort of proclaimation that I am the annointed one. It was never that. Only you in your poorly conceived diatribe of attempting to belittle someone tried to turn it into something it was never stated nor intended.

I suppose it is somewhat progressive, however, that finally in your fourth post you mentioned something vaguely connected to the topic.

In your knowledge of "this guy" as you describe him, can you point to something that would indicate K-Thong is anything more than what he has been convicted for? What actions did he take that might describe him as a "freedom fighter"?

.

The reds never won an election for the simple reason that the reds never stood as a political party and put forward candidates. Even for the coming election the reds will not stand as party. Some leaders of the UDD faction of the reds will be allowed to join the PTP and stand as candidate for the PTP. All after consultation of PTP members in a democratic way of course.

Where people say don't use the label 'terrorist', others may say don't use the label 'freedom fighter'. Labels may be easy but too general. In case of Thailand most terrorists / freedomfighters seem to be down South. The others are protesters who want democracy, or something or another :)

Football - a contact sport played by two sides each comprising of eleven morons. They are so stupid that they are led onto the playing area by little children or else they would end up playing out the contest in the car park. The participants vie to sport the most ridiculous hairstyle, the truly cuckoo going so far as to shaving their heads, and some go as far as to use dyes. The colour of the boots worn should attract attention and assists in making one wonder if they are not witnessing a pantomime. (Pussy in Boots?) In the event of one of the participants actually scoring a goal it is recognised that he is obliged to act in a way that should attract the attention of the men in white coats. He is then mobbed by his team mates who kiss, cuddle and embrace this 'hero' in a manner that should be reserved for somebody who has saved the civilised world from several pestilences.

The witnessing of such an unedifying sight as twenty two idiots kicking a bladder around a field is all the more enjoyable for some of the spectators by being under the influence of copious quantities of alcohol. This may be the reason why some watch the spectacle naked to the waist while others maintain that 'supporting the lads' is more important than supporting their wives and children. That their minds are seriously disturbed is indicated by their response to the ineptitude of a player, who is paid more in a week than the majority of the spectators are in a period of five years, being unable to launch the football into an area of 96 square feet from a distance of only 12 yards. This is put down to misadventure or 'hard luck'. Such judgment should not be questioned since it is held that the spectators know far more than the officials present there to ensure fair play who are of course illegitimate sons of wayward ladies. Fair play according to the rules is of course a pipe dream and pulling an opponents shirt, elbowing him in the face, kicking him or causing injury in some other way are all part and parcel of the game - well, I say game when tribal warfare may be a more appropriate term.

I lean towards the notion that having a conversation with a local about football may well contribute to him remaining a poor, uneducated third world person. If you must talk sport rather than the state of the world I suggest that a meaningful discussion about nude leapfrog would provide some benefit.

I'm not sure I agree with your last sentence but the the rest of your post is spot on.

There is a lot more afoot than than the TVD's (Thai Visa Dinosoars ) want to admit.

If I get you correctly a vote for UDD and PTP in this election is not a vote for the reds, just a vote for change of government, yes I would agree

Labels.......each person is an individual, to support a common goal does not mean each individual supports the methodology used by a few hotheads, a fact that is eternally lost on many of the posters on this forum.

my point was not his interpretation of the information

it was that he could only guess whether there were three or four election wins

if he is to retain any credibility with the rest of his post then surely he would be able to get something as important as an election result and the number of them correct ?

in my opinion that makes him just about as well informed as the rest of the rabble that support the reds...........

As I said, if you can't vote for the reds (as you state they are not a party) then the option is to vote for change.......if of course one is disatisfied with the current government
