ANBAR, IRAQ (BNO NEWS) -- At least eight people were killed and seven others injured on Thursday in an attack by a suicide bomber targeting a government bank in west Iraq's Anbar Province, a police source said, as reported by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

"A suicide bomber, wearing an explosive belt, has blown himself up inside a gathering of Army and police men, close to the Rafidain Bank in west Anbar's Haditha city," the police source said.

According to Aswat al-Iraq news agency, the explosion killed 4 soldiers and 4 civilians, and wounded 5 army men and 2 civilians. The people were waiting to collect their salaries.

This is the first major attack in the town since October 2009 when a suicide bomber killed five people at a funeral. Haditha is 190km northwest of Baghdad, the Iraqi capital.
