UNITED NATIONS (BNO NEWS) -- United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon on Sunday appointed former Jordanian Foreign Minister Al-Khatib as his Special Envoy to Libya and said Libya has agreed to allow the UN to send a humanitarian assessment team to Tripoli.

UN spokesman Martin Nesirky said Ban spoke with Libyan Foreign Minister Musa Kusa on Sunday and "strongly appealed" for an end to hostilities in the country, as well as full compliance with Security Council resolution 1970. Kusa agreed to allow the UN to send a humanitarian assessment team to Tripoli, Nesirky said.
