uptheos
Just came back from Charlies old place, looks like Yunee's or Yumees whatever her name is, has closed down. It's got a for sale sign up. Did ANYONE try there?
uptheos
So, without starting a new poll - who does (in people's opinion) now serve the best Fish and Chips in CM, taking into account both quality and value for money? elektrified
I can't believe piggies was rated so highly. The fish and chips I got there was poor <deleted>! Obviously your idea of Fish and Chips differs from the majority polled......which is fair enough. Yes in deed, but if you got what I got there in the UK you would hand it back I understand what you say Hans, how I miss a big Haddock, Cod or Plaice and Chips. However, this is Chiang Mai and I guess it's good that someone is trying. I have had Fish and Chips at numerous places here and mostly I've been disappointed......so now on my bi annual visits to UK I have a Fish and Chip fest. ็Have you tried Kelly's uptheos? uptheos
No I haven't tried Kelly's, but I gather you are recommending that I do (Elektrified). I'm not quite sure where Kelly's is.........tell me and I'll certainly give it a go. Maybe the OP might be interested too. Thanks. butterisbetter
Kelly's is located in Mee Chok Plaza. That's on the way to Mae Jo university. It's where one of the Rim Ping Supermarkets is located. If you drive in the entrance off the Mae Jo Road just head straight into the parking lot and past the front of Rim Ping about 30 meters further on. It's got good signage so it's hard to miss. Rob, the owner, borders on obsessive about the quality of his fish & chips. Actually, just make that obsessive. In fact, he's pretty much that way about all his food. Very high quality stuff and very nice people. His wife is extremely charming. A very pleasant pass to pass the time.

Ulysses G.
So, without starting a new poll - who does (in people's opinion) now serve the best Fish and Chips in CM, taking into account both quality and value for money? The Rose Guest House did, but Gypsy has moved away. My bet is on Kelly's, but have no tried it yet.

I must admit to having a FB now and then, but I have it without all that gunk in the middle......it serves a need. I'm afraid they are not 'chips' but over salted somethings. Always say no ice otherwise you get a quarter of a glass of coke. It's already chilled anyway. So Mr GL, now we have lost our top two (in the poll) Fish and Chip places, where's the best F&C....BE SERIOUS!!!! el jefe
The "best value" fish and chips in CM has to be a tie between Pun Pun and Gecko Garden. Both are owned by Americans with Thais in the kitchen. I don't know if Gonzo or Rudy have ever had "real" fish and chips in the UK, what ever that might be. (Does it have to be served in newspaper?) I certainly haven't. But to this American, those two are not only the best value, but the best too.

amexpat
If you can't make it better yourself, accept they are better than you are. Are you a master chef? Or do you just never express dissatisfaction with what you are served? Interesting logic. It would sure expedite malpractice suits - "Don't complain about what the surgeon did if you can't do it better!"

I haven't had fish and chips at Pun Pun, but going on what others have said to me, I believe they are pretty good and the portion generous. I have had fish and chips at Gecko Garden, usually on the special nights at some ridiculously low price.....and they were also pretty good and terrific value. Raindancer
So, without starting a new poll - who does (in people's opinion) now serve the best Fish and Chips in CM, taking into account both quality and value for money? I have tried them all and I must say "Kelly's" certainly is the best quality I have ever tasted and better value than the others. The owner is dedicated to quality and uses good fish and extremely light batter. Not only is he particular about the quality of the food, but also about his company hygiene; his kitchen and restaurant are spotlessly clean. Not surprising with his twenty years in the restaurant business!! NIce guy , great staff and homely atmosphere and he also has AC for those hotter days, to keep his customers in a convivial atmosphere.

uptheos
Too bad he does not have a place downtown It sure does, this place is crying out for someone who does really good Fish and Chips, but as been indicated earlier specialist restaurants in town struggle. However, if Kelly's is as good as people are saying, it might be wise to take self and family out there when the F&C fancy comes along. After all we don't eat it every day, so going out there once in a while isn't too bad.

gotlost
I may go by Kelly's in the next day or two. I have not been in the restaurant since it was Prats which btw I thought was OK.
