Thanks for all the replies to my other visa questions the past week. I hope this will be my last. Since my wife doesn't work I will be paying for her trip to London. What do I have to submit to show that I have the funds to pay for the trip? My source of income is my social security payments from the US, and investment accounts with Vanguard and Fidelity. Will a copy of these accounts surfice as evidence that I can pay for her trip? Should I submit the original statement and a copy? Also our marriage certificate. Should she submit the original and a copy? When do they return the original documents? As she will be submitting our house and car registrations as well as a land deed.

Original documents are preferred; copies can be too easily altered.

Your last 6 months bank statements showing the money coming in and your outgoings should be enough, but if you want to provide extra evidence it wont hurt.

Documents are returned with the applicant's passport; but if you want to ensure getting them back you should submit copies as well.
