Has anyone on this forum brought, or knows anyone personally who has brought, 'junk silver coins' (US) into Thailand? Seems to me (correct or not so?) that if the coins are legal tender, as indeed these 1960s quarters and dimes are, then they should have no VAT or duty/taxes. The only risk I see is raised eyebrows when one brings in a wheelbarrow instead of a few scattered coins among the coins one throws the pile onto the tray during x-ray... Likewise for gold coins. Money is money, no? If it is round and circulates (e.g. a gold coin might have a denomination of $20 but its bullion value is closer to US$1400), and as long as it is under something like 10K why would there be a problem?
