Hello All,

Have a problem relating to getting a work permit. I'm a Canadian on a visa extension based on marriage who has spent the past three years doing a bachelors degree at the international section at Ramkhamhaeng University. I've lived and worked here as an English teacher for the past 10 years but decided to get a degree to make myself better qualified and legal. I just finished my studies about a month ago and was told by the office staff that the official degree and transcripts won't be issued until next year. I checked and supposedly this is the norm.

Anyways, i was just hired as an English teacher at a private school and they have asked for the educational doc's for work permit purposes. I've explained my situation and they seem to understand but I'm a bit depressed. I've spent the past three years working hard so i could work legally in this country and as it stands i may have to continue this practice for a while longer.

I'm wondering what my options are. I was told by the university office staff that they could provide me with an official letter from the dean stating i completed all the required courses for the degree, as well as temporary transcripts. Would this be enough to satisfy the labor ministry?

I'd appreciate any and all advice.

Thank you!

It is better than nothing and hopefully it will be OK. It always depends on the labour office you are dealing with, but most I have dealt with are very helpful.

Not sure the univesity degree is required for a work permit anyway.

You don't need a degree for a workpermit or visa....You need it to get a teacher's licence.

A school will apply for a temporary teacher's licence waiver for 2 years and then after that you are supposed to sit some exams and will be granted a Teacher's licence.

There are thousands of legal teacher's here with out degrees on teacher licence waivers!
