The N baby's leaking and leaking. Debris of the Tsunami destroyed parts are floating to the US coast now. The US goverment resists to check fish for radiation.

(Reuters) - Tons of radioactive water were discovered on Tuesday to have leaked into the ground from Japan's Fukushima nuclear plant, the latest in a series of leaks at the plant damaged in a March earthquake and tsunami, the country's nuclear watchdog said.

here we go, NOW blame the people themselves

Commenting on 6 other nuclear reactors in Fukushima Prefecture whose fate remains in limbo, Nishizawa said the reactors wouldn't exist without consent of the local people. The 4 crippled reactors at the plant are to be decommissioned.

He also said cost-cutting, sales of the firm's assets and other drastic streamlining measures will proceed before utility charges are raised. http://www3.nhk.or.j...lish/28_37.html

... additional to the quoted post above a very interesting observation from the Omah Nebraska issue, basically the same conclusion: "Do what you want, it's up to you now" was the remark of those who are responsible for security and safety.

Circulation cooling system hits another snag

The newly installed reactor-cooling system at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant has suffered another problem, as its water treatment equipment has stopped.

The system that decontaminates and re-uses radioactive water from the facilities is believed to be the key to the stable cooling of the reactors.

But Tokyo Electric Power Company, or TEPCO, says the decontamination equipment stopped automatically on Thursday afternoon when the alarm went off.

Radiation detected in Fukushima children's urine

A group of Japanese citizens says radioactive materials have been detected in urine of 10 children in Fukushima Prefecture, where the troubled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant is located.

The Fukushima Network for Saving Children from Radiation collected urine samples from 10 elementary to high school students in the prefecture's capital Fukushima City. The samples were analyzed by a French research organization.

... quite revealing, isn't it?

Just 48 hours after the onset of the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan, the British government devised a propaganda campaign to downplay the severity of the crisis, a talking point that was hastily parroted by leading global warming alarmist George Monbiot.

BRITISCH GOVERNEMENT DIVISED PROPAGANDA CAMPAIGN TO DOWNPLAY FUKUSHIMA!

"Internal emails seen by the Guardian show how the business and energy departments worked closely behind the scenes with the multinational companies EDF Energy, Areva and Westinghouse to try to ensure the accident did not derail their plans for a new generation of nuclear stations in the UK," reports Rob Edwards.

Reactors number 1 was also in meltdown just hours into the disaster, but this was denied for months by the authorities.

All vested interests in nuclear, whether gov't or biz or personal, have been very busy trying to downplay the extent of the disaster. It's like when a mother gets word that one of her sons has been arrested for murder. Without hesitation, that woman will say something like; "Oh, my little Jimmy has always been a good boy. He could never go and do something so bad." When Jimmy is convicted of his crime, the same mother will go on to insist that her other boys could never do anything so bad.

People turn to their governments for answers in times like these. Governments have launched campaigns to inform the public, (called a propaganda campaign by some) to prevent irrational fear and panic, the real enemy here.

Japan's waking up to reality.

4 local governments seek to scrap nuclear plants

An NHK survey of local governments with nuclear power plants has found that 4 of 28 respondents are ready to break with nuclear energy.

Last week, NHK asked local governments with nuclear plants, except those in Fukushima Prefecture, how their thinking about the plants has changed since the Fukushima Daiichi crisis began.

Of the 28 prefectures and municipalities that responded, 15 said they could not make an immediate decision on whether to pursue closure of their plants.

interesting development ... and even Germany made sure last week not to go along with nuclear energy. All plants will be decomissioned. Italy will be next.

Comments on "Meltdown underway at Japan Nuclear Reactor" would be on-topic to this thread, while discussion of possible nuclear meltdowns in other countries would be other topics of discussion. Let's keep the current discussion to the disaster in Japan.

People turn to their governments for answers in times like these. Governments have launched campaigns to inform the public, (called a propaganda campaign by some) to prevent irrational fear and panic, the real enemy here.

Fear can be overamped, fersure. But fear can also yield smart precautions. If my neighbor has a house with a wooden porch projecting over dry weeds, a healthy fear of fire can compel him to clear the weeds away, and may prevent his house from burning down. If another neighbor fears an open-topped water holding tank might compromise the purity of her water supply, then placing a good lid on there will likely preclude sickness in her house.

Government campaigns have a history of untrue claims. I know of two governments which criminalize hemp, can u guess which they are? Yup, the US and Thailand.

There hasn't been any panic in regard to Fukushima (kudos to the Japanese populace), but I see a groundswell there of well-thought-out revulsion for nuclear plants. Same same in parts of Europe. Many cities in N.America already gave a healthy aversion to nuclear, and have made it clear in their respective laws (i.e. no nuclear fuel or radioactive substances allowed to be shipped within their districts).

Some of us residing in Thailand are waiting for the same sorts of wise declarations be instated here.

... is that topic related now?" I have posted from the very begginning that we'll receive the truth in parts and proven countless times that we're played all along. This has nothing to do with a caring government. And to wait until people there and elsewhere grow six legs and five arms is not my aim.

About 45 per cent of children in Fukushima prefecture experienced thyroid exposure to radiation after the nuclear power there was damaged in March, officials said Tuesday.

But the results were not high enough to require further examination, the Nuclear Safety Commission said.

In late March, local and central governments carried out the survey on 1,080 children under the age of 15 in areas near the damaged Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station after the crisis.

The group detected as much as 931,000 becquerels per square metre at one location, above the 555,000-becquerel limit for compulsory resettlement in the Chernobyl disaster. Samples from the other three locations measured between 326,000 and 384,000 becquerels per square metre, Kyodo reported. - DPA http://www.thehindu.com/news/international/article2161471.ece

Nearly 1 million becquerels per square meter sounds daunting. How do you clean up poison like that? Radiation on the soil, in the oceans, in the air, in animals, in people, in food, in women's' wombs. Radiation has no prejudice, it gets in to everything, dead or living. Yet still, there are apologists for nuclear power plants who will bend over backwards, or bury skeptics (like myself) with cavalcade of words or derogatory appellations - because they see their footing crumbling.

Because the costs for clean-up are near limitless, how can anyone still claim that nuclear is cheaper than other types of power generation. Granted, fossil fuels have clean-up costs (and arguably contribute to global warming), but fossils are nowhere as insidious as the costs of trying to clean quadrillions of becquerels seeping in to every nook and cranny within irradiated zones ......zones which stretch across the Pacific to who knows where.

High levels of caesium found in Fukushima beef(AFP) – 10 hours ago

TOKYO — More than six times the legal limit of radioactive caesium has been found in beef from Fukushima prefecture, home to Japan's crippled nuclear plant, according to an official statement.

The meat was taken from one of 11 cows shipped to Tokyo from a farmer in Minamisoma city, according to the statement by the Tokyo metropolitan government released on Saturday.

The 11 cows all showed high levels of radioactive caesium, ranging from 1,530 to 3,200 becquerels per kilogram, compared with the legal limit of 500 becquerels, the Tokyo statement said. http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5g8uKqhfairgEGRK0-eGbMAEFUffA?docId=CNG.46547c5840254c39493e7d01c69fee4d.7b1

Radioactive ash found in waste plants near Tokyo(AFP) – 6 hours ago

TOKYO — Japanese waste incineration plants near Tokyo have found high levels of radiation in ash, and officials said Tuesday it may be from garden waste contaminated by the Fukushima nuclear disaster.

The radioactive caesium was detected in plants in Kashiwa city in Chiba prefecture, northeast of Tokyo and about 200 kilometres (120 miles) from the plant that has leaked radiation since the March 11 quake and tsunami. http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5iPN-whkfu1E0C_LcAIeffM9uoHZQ?docId=CNG.30b3c946c2c894e47045f723d8b684af.b51

More beef from cattle in Japan that ate straw tainted by radiation has found its way into the food supply, deepening concern about the safety of meat as the country struggles to contain the spread of the contamination.

Cattle at the farm in Asakawa, about 60 kilometers from the crippled Fukushima Dai-Ichi nuclear station, were fed with rice straw containing 97,000 becquerels of cesium per kilogram, compared with the government standard of 300 becquerels, said Hidenori Ohtani at the livestock division of the Fukushima prefectural government. The farm shipped 42 cattle in the past three months to slaughterhouses in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba and Miyagi prefectures, which were processed into meat and sold to distributors, he said.
