Toyota Discrimination Policy

Recommended Posts

Nick I think I recall you mentioning to CH a while back that he would never be able to get them to understand, so maybe some friendly advice here in your case as well. smiley-bangheadonwall.gif

Sound advice WS :).

I still think it worth the effort of banging your head against that brickwall - it may be the best/only way to encourage change for the better.

Anyway, I always wanted to start a thread that attracted 150 posts, so I will sign off with a quick apology for the misleading sub-heading of "against Farangs". This has been about discrimination against Thais.

Thank you for all the comments. I await delivery of the Ford next week with some excitement.

I agree, I try to make positive changes too and by nature can't give up trying so I completely understand but have also learned that at times you just have to walk away from some and consider you've done everything you can.. Here in LOS it's a never ending quest and often frustration though I know I have had positive influence on several occasions and that is the gratification that outweighs the occasional impossible task..

I intended to buy a Toyota pick up today.

However, when the sales person told my better half that she would need a 30% deposit "because you have a Farang boyfriend", I told them to stick their car up their arse.

My missus is now going to be a proud owner of a Ford Ranger

Sorry about your luck and sorry about the FORD thing. :D

Seriously, this was some racist BS they tried to pull on you. I would have told them the same thing but would go to the other Toyota dealer and get it from there, I am sure it was that particular sales guy or a particular dealer. I would also send the email to Toyota Thailand and CC to Toyota Japan.

And to Spoonman, it's not a issue of extra 5% or 10%, it is the wording "because you have a Farang boyfriend". IF you don't see the problem with that, then you need to grow up before you post a reply.

:coffee1: I would have mailed my letter in both English and Thai, to the head of that dealership, noting in the mail that copies were going to Thailand Toyota headquarters, and corporate office in Japan. That shows all are made aware of it, and possibly, as we say in the States, S%$# flows downhill, and with enough momentum, it might :hit-the-fan: all over the sales rep you have the problem with.

I thank Toyota of Japan have their hands full at the moment with other issues. Writing a letter to them would be a wast of time. The OP did the only thing outside of talking to the dealership management that he could do. Toyota lost and Ford won.

One never knows the value of complaining. Apart from perhaps improving the local set-up, Toyota might conceivably offer him a substantial discount if he cancels his Ford order.

For the record, I would write if it were me. I have just received a free meal for 2 from a household fast food chain to whom I wrote following a refusal to provide food 2 hours before advertised closing time. :D

Last August I wanted to buy a Toyota but found the local Toyota dealers a bit off hand and could not give me a delivery date. I telphoned Toyota head ofice in Bangkok and spoke to someone and explained my difficulties. I was told that it would be dealt with. Within hours I received many calls from Toyota dealers and many were the same that I had previously been disatisfied with but now had a completely different attitude. I got my Fortuner within a month. It pays to go to the top when you have a problem with a local dealer. Toyota head office does not mess around when it comes to losing a sale so thats the way to go but in any case aFord is a fine product!

He works for Toyota what difference does it make? The staff should be vetted and trained better if that's the case..

One feels you haven't been in Thailand very long. :D

OP:

For a bit of fun you should have taken the sale's girls name and requested it in writing. :whistling:

I love watching them backtrack after they declare something unbelievably stupid.

Yes by choice, preferable to anything else new and most used at the insane car prices here as I'm not characterized as having more dollars (baht) then [sense] as so many are, and no need to tie myself to a long term losing investment when my days here are numbered eh? So what's your point? Incoherent as usual..

Let me translate his post for you T/A. It speaks to staff education and training in LOS in general nothing specifically related to vehicles...

Sorry, you know me, elaborate on your last sentence, just for me, please. :)

As usual, a couple of idiotic replies.

This is a racialist policy and totally unwarranted and unacceptable. If it was a try-on by the sales staff I hope he/she gets the sack!

I would go all guns firing with an e-mail to the President of Toyota Thailand and a similar one to Japan. probably won't even get a reply! They, through their stupidity have lost a sale, and with the current situation in Japan, that is an important loss.

Full marks to Ford for completing a sale with you - and I believe enticed you with a 10% down payment with 0% finance!

Sending complaints to head of Toyota is useless.

The way this dealership business works is every dealer can manage their place anyway they want.

Like 7/11.

Dealers are like customers to Toyota HQ.

So corporate office have no say at all.

Solution is you just have to find better dealer.

Toyota policy? It was some idiot salesgirl showing her resentment and idiocy <deleted>. Or perhaps trying to get an extra 5% downpayment and increasing her commission.

When somebody spouts such nonsense make sure to request their name and their statement in writing (all done politely of course) and to get clarification from all the superiors in the store, making sure to document everything in writing.

It's actually great fun.

Like questioning why your check-bin is 100b more than it should be at some local restaurant. :D
