Iran unveils unmanned 'flying saucer'

TEHRAN, IRAN (BNO NEWS) -- Iran on Wednesday unveiled a home-made unmanned 'flying saucer' during an exhibition of strategic technologies, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.

Zohal (Saturn) is a cuadrotour device which was designed and developed jointly by Farnas Aerospace Company and Iranian Aviation and Space Industries Association (IASIA).

The flying device is equipped with an auto-pilot system, a GPS (Global Positioning System) and two separate imaging systems with full High Definition (HD) 10 mega-pixel picture quality.

The Zohal is planned to be used for variety of missions, mostly related to aerial imaging. The cuadrotour unmanned device is able to take and send images simultaneously.

The flying device also includes a small, portable navigation and monitoring center which will be used for transmitting data and images. Zohal can fly in both outdoor and indoor spaces.

The unmanned 'flying saucer' was presented in a ceremony which had the presence of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei. In addition, a second project unveiled was a light sports aircraft.

The ISA-class model sports plane was designed and developed by Dorna Aerospace Company. It is a full composite sports plane and can be used for private flights, aerial patrolling and surveillance.
