Bangkok Super Skywalk Project to be Delayed

The construction plans for Bangkok's Super Skywalk project, which will create an elevated walk way through different zones of the city has been delayed.

An executive from Krungthep Thanakom or KT, Amorn Kitchawengkul gave an overview about the Bangkok Super Skywalk project saying that the elevated walk way is divided into six different zones and starts with commercial zones, economic zones, residential zones, combined zones, and parks.

The residential zones will be around the Sukhumvit and Ploenchit areas where condominiums are concentrated.

He said each of the different zones will be managed differently as they have their own unique characteristics.

For instance, the residential zone will consist of many group activities and events, while the economic zone will be organized to fulfill the needs of the modern lifestyle and will have a large LCD screen displaying stock prices and exchange rates.

However, Amorn said the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has not signed any official contracts to hire KT for the planned construction.

As such, the company cannot proceed with the construction process, which highly impacts their cost of production.

KT has given out loans worth 3 billion baht with an interest rate of 4.7 percent per year.

If the projects are delayed any further, the company will face higher interest rates.

Amorn has confirmed that despite the delays, the company has vowed to complete the Sukhumvit skywalk by the end of December this year.

Guess they couldn't get enough street vendors to sign up.:whistling:

Hey! Motor-boys probably were not notified either.

To allow pedestrians on sidewalks or sky-walks? Unthinkable! This is Thailand!

Pedestrians: Who do they think they are?

They think up these projects to keep the large construction companies in business and syphon of percentages. They dont do this for the greater good! Why do you think there are so many wide roads all over Thailand, especially in places where they are not needed?

Again we have the BMA and proposing lousy projects. It's their M.O. to always announce stupid projects, wait to see a public response, and if there isn't an outrage, they go through with the project. Where's that Bangkok Eye project now?

KT is a so-called privatized company that is actually 99% owned by the BMA. Go ahead and google 'Amorn Kitchawengkul Hawaii' and you will see a lawsuit filed years ago where things didn't go the BMA/KT's way and it ended up in international court. This was back when Gov. Samak was about the exit as Governor of Bangkok.

What a load of dung. Trying to brand the different sections of this stupid walkway? Why not try to fix the roads and sidewalks below?! Or add a moving walkway between Chidlom and Siam BTS stations?

More billions of baht of our taxpayer funds going into waste with a percentage into lining pockets.

Or... enforce the laws regarding public thoroughfare encroachment. Have police enforce traffic laws to get motorbikes off the sidewalks. Repave the most egregious cases of sidewalk deterioration and do all this having the safety of pedestrians as the main focus throughout. That would cost less but then again, who cares about being thrifty, conscientious and efficient? It's not their money. There is really no need to build a super walk way that will cost much more as represented in the current budget and that it will not be completed in the projected time-frame. A super walk way that will be crowded eventually by beggars and vendors, as it is the case in Anu Sawari (Victory Monument). Then again, would the politicians and police be willing to do their duty for the greater good?

Oh please, not again bashing, another establishment---- now I have to join in, and admit your right, along with all the other posts.

It is not very funny when you think about it, cause I choose to live here, 55555555555555...but now I can;t help myself, I need help--....................I will say this, the money would be better spent on so many needed things here, why don't the Thai at heart the anti bashers suggest this, after all this is a waste of THAI MONEY...IT'S now that they should have Thai at heart and speak up for Thailand...................but wait--no they won't,.................cause that would look bad for them.

Oh, but the Sky walk and more sky train lines are desperately needed. Why? Because Bangkok is sinking. This is not a joke -- its serious, but most people don't know the facts. Within 15 years, Bangkok will be the next Venice, Italy.

Here's a record of the original article on Bangkok sinking: "Bangkok Is Sinking" CNN Archived Link

Interestingly, apparently there is a conspiracy to cover up this story. Bangkok property owners have powerful friends, because that article on CNN ( http://edition.cnn.com/2007/TECH/science/10/22/thailand.water.rising.ap/index.html ) has now been deleted, even though it is standard policy for CNN.com never to delete any article once it has been published.

  • 2 weeks later...

I understand where everyone is coming from, but sometimes what you think you want doesn't work out that way. In North America we have all sorts of deserted sidewalks because everyone is taking their car from mall to mall. Take away the street vendors and there might beno energy left in the city. The elevated sidewalks are just a ridiculous pipe dream and wouldn't work anyway.
